ad unit vs. link unit: top of page

    Has anyone run any experiments on the effectiveness of using a normal ad unit like a leaderboard vs using the 728 x 15 link unit on the top of pages?

    What have you found?

    it really depend on your site layout. but from my experience my the link unit its much more better.

    in my opinion also link unit is better because visitors think it is site navigation, but if they see ad they think it is just content, may skip it because ad text is smaller than site's real content so it looks irrelevant

    I like the ad unit better as the link unit requires another click on a search result for payout... :(

    I found that link unit is better near the top or at the very bottom

    you would think that would be the case but i've tested and the link units convert far better on my sites. i also agree that top and bottom of the page placement helps.

    link units (if good blended) are effictive because visitors (specially newbies) most likely think they are links in your site .

    yes, i have ckecked it out, if you use the link unit on the top as your navigation bar, which is not allowed, it works very good.
    anyways, it is lot better than the traditional leaderboard ad unit.:)

    Who's to say your using it as a "navigation bar" ? could just be good blending :eek:

    Link units have always converted better for me at the top.
