Can anyone think of a better showman than Steve Jobs when it comes to keeping things under wraps before a marketing blitz?

With the new iPhone I find it amazing that nobody had anything like this on speculation radar. How does this group manage to keep things secret until the day they decide to release it?

Eh - actually ive been reading rumors for months now and a few of them were spot on (price, features, and carrier). It is pretty dang cool though.

Wasn't really "under wraps". Many people knew about it already. Plus, it's going to be a flop. Too expensive.

Yeah there are a few rumour sites around, but you just never know which one is gonna be right and which is total trash. The iphone IMO is gonna be big. Not just a phone but a 8GB widescreen ipod, web browser, photo viewer and with that touch screen + funky OS cannot fail to lose, although it could do with being a bit cheaper. But things always start expensive and drop over the coming months.

It has some alien reversed technology which notes which way you are holding it and changes the screen axis accordingly. How cool is that? Check the website for the low down.

Nah, I don't think too many people out there are like Jobs. He's pretty cool. And speaking of the phone, I love it's Web browsing capabilities. I will definitely be buying that baby!

The problem is when expectations are built up too much and then when the product comes out it does not meet expectations.

Have you seen the phone on the website? Believe me, it lives up to the hype!

Thats whats great about Apple products. There is always HUGE hype and they always seem to be deserving / deliver on the hype. This is why Im now an Apple / Mac fanboy after being a PC / MS fanboy for over 12 years.

Unfortunately, the way things are looking, I'm pretty damn sure this is going to be Apple's first failure. Oh well, they need to start somewhere.

^^ Nah, I don't think so. But I would be interested to hear why you think that. :)

It's really nothing all that new. Sure it's got a few cool sensors, a svelte lookin' OS, and the i-Prefix to make it catchy, but nearly all the features have been available in the Pocket PC for years now. Apple is just aiming to let it loose mainstream with this device. Pocket PCs have failed, and so will this. Read my article for more details.

Well Im going to disagree, because I plan on buying one in October. Its an amazing product that has many features that havent been used before, and with a large company backing it, I think it will do quite well.

Not saying it isn't amazing in some ways, nor that no one will buy it (with Apple backing it, I'm sure most fan boys and girls will want it), but it's basically the same exact thing as a Pocket PC, which was backed by Microsoft, and first released in 2000. Later versions, including my HP HX4700, offer a zippy 624 MHz CPU, amazing graphics processing, a 5 GB microdrive (added in, but still comes out cheaper than the iPhone), and a VGA (640x320) screen.
