As you can see i'm losing some design appeal in the "showthread" page adding it a <h1> html tag http://www.techdo.com/106290-20-things-you-dont-know.html do you think i will have some SEO improvement ? or just messing the pages with no benefits ? thank you Dario .
You can retain your design using css. Just define the h1 tag in your css file as normal text. Not sure if that's what you meant by messing the pages though?
adding a h1 tag alone wont help you rank any better, but if you optimise your page with your main keyword(s) and then add your keyword within the h1 tag then yeah it can help.
i agree, between the H1 tag i've placed the Thread Title hoping this could be a good solution thanks .
Sorry it's a bad habit after years of Yahoo Mail use.. after each message you have to leave some blank lines if you don't want to send message like this: Hello Mary ! How are you ? Dario. --------------------------- Control your Body Odor. Click here !
H1 tags are one of the most important ways SEs (mostly Google) that determines what your page is about (and H2 tags).... Google doesn't use Meta Tags for this purpose anymore, so H1 tags are great way of highlighting your page's content. Don't overuse it though.. Cheers, Nima
Agree with Nima - <h1>'s are one of the most important on-page SEO tactics to help the SE's understand what your page is about.
Adding H1 tags, as well as H2, H3 tags additionally, are considered one of the most essential ways of SEO'ing a page in my opinion.
i'm a bit confused after i got this answer from another person on a different webmaster forum "I doubt very much if it will help in your case. When used in a proper hierarchical order along with h2, h3 etc, and when using well-constructed xhtml, search engines will note its importance. But when it is within a mixture of css in the head and inline, improperly used divs, br, and tables etc with far more code on the page than content, then I very much doubt if a search engine will give it any credence. You need to learn xhtml properly. It won't take long to learn all the basics and redesign your site accordingly. I get good PR with hardly any backlinks and think it must have something to do with the XHTML." .
firstly PR has nothing to do with whether or not a site has valid code. some pages only have 1 heading so there would be no need for h2, h3 etc, i doubt search engines will punish you for only having one heading (however the rules for h1 tags apply to h2, h3 etc too)
Proper use of <h1> tag (1 per page), with good keywords, is an important on-page optimization factor. In the example you gave in your first post, it's allright : There is only one <h1> tag, the thread title is in and that should help this page to rank for those words.
