Quick summary. 3 domains one site www.irgent.com www.irgent.net www.mercatuscommunications.com My boss said: It is one physical server with 3 domains pointing to it. Our original domain was mercatuscommunications.com. Then we renamed the product to Irgent. So we registered irgent.net. Irgent.com wasn’t available. When they bought Mercatus, they decided that they wanted to also buy the irgent.com domain. They did so and that is why we have multiple domains. Question: Shouldn't mecatusucucomminuaciotnads.com lol and www.irgent.net be doing a 301 permanent redirect to the .com site? - Isnt it bad from an seo perspective to have multiple domains pointing to one site like that? Thanks in advance for your info.
Yes, you are correct. 301 the other two domians, otherwise multiple copies are going to get indexed and filtered out.
And the one that i want indexed (the .com) is the newest so it will wind up going bye bye if this isnt fixed right?
Yes, probably. The engines will try and determine which site is the older version with more authority and filter out the others
I guess i knew this simple answer already, but just looking for confirmation before i tell my boss to do something, because he seems to know alot about servers and stuff. Thanks!
