Sig link vs. Directory submission

I have observed that here on DP there is a lot of sales in someones sig link. I was wondering, from experience, what is the best value for the money, buying sig links from other memebers or paying someone to submit to directories across the web? How about traffic conversion? Which one gets the most traffic from the link itself, not the SE result?

Example: Paying someone who has ~1000 posts to the cost to pay someone to submit to 1000 directories.

Well, if I were you I'd start by using your own signature (for free).

I'd think that 1000 directories (sites) would always be better than 1000 posts from 1 site. Also, directories tend to be more topical than forum posts.

If you're going to buy signature links or pay for someone who will submit your site to directories. I think it would be better if you will just hire an SEO specialist for your site. So that they are the one responsible for submitting your site to directories and creating signature for your site.

I would go for directory listing (good quality of coarse) sig links are good to start a site but unless you keep posting they gradually loose value as new posts become more visible. Directory listings on the other hand stay pretty consistent the only issue is if they get many more links on the page you're listed on, which waters down the juice.

Well I heard people say they get a pretty good CTR on sig links, the link in my sig is to a friend's site so I can't tell you personally.

Sig links are definitely better than directory submissions in terms of traffic. Directory submissions are probably good for PR ..

Why do somebody think that PR0 links are good for PR?

Not of them PR0, but most, that true, but over time they can change to PR1-3, all depends how hard owner of directory works:)

There are a lot of free directories you may want to start with those you can do it yourself, though using free directories you will not be sure that by submitting your site will be accepted to 1000 directories... sig on DP will certainly show on SEs...concentrate with permanent links...

Great info guys, I agree about the permanent link idea, but how does that relate to cost? A 1 month sig link (~1k posts) i have seen go for around $15 - $30 a month, while someone submitting to 1k directories for me goes from $100-200 one time fee. How much would ~1k perm links cost me? Assuming i would pay for them. While i know permanent links are the best, im just trying to get the idea to see what is the most cost effective.

I can tell you that there is nothing like a good professional taking care of your marketing and presenting you a long term plan for bringing your business to maximum profit.

For your question - directory submissions is the choice. If you need help, I am leaving you a PM.

    Regards

    Forum post: More targeted audience
    Directories submission: more backlinks

I will do a bit of both.

Participating in the forum helps you in the long term. You will gain your knowledge, trust, reputation and perhaps more targeted audience to your site that you wish to promote.

Signature links can sure bring you a fair amount of traffic. I think the stats that Jeremy from shoemoney.com posted showed that he received some 20,000+ visitors from DP during 2006.
