Hi, I just noticed some changes of the keywords that are triggering to my site 1 change that I notice is the keyword "18 rules of successful life" (without quotes) on which I am ranking first. Inspite of using a free pages, and owning PR0. I am beating the PR5 site (alvit.de) for that keyword that is just next to mine, sound interesting and strange to me. Let's watch how long it stay and what's your comments on this? Awaiting your insightful thoughts.
I can't add much to these; http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=186449 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=155289&page=3 I had a major rant as well; http://www.site-reference.com/articles/Search-Engines/The-Google-Toolbar-PageRank-Demystified.html Google's ToolBar PageRank is simply not that great a metric for SEO work really... great for recips or selling domains and text links... but that's about it
Agreed with you, but I am unable to figure out which one causes this to rank so well, even this page was included in supplemental directory before.
You site is at googlepages, This may be one of the reason you are getting top position. Still agree with hooperman.
"18 rules of successful life" appears in your title, description and filename, and perhaps in links to your site as well whereas alvit.de don't appear to be targetting the phrase so it is only natural that your page appears more relevant - presumably it is more relevant! that is how us small guys can take on the big guys - they can't possibly cover all the 'long tail' possibilities. Does it bring much traffic?
play with a pagerank search engine, and after a couple minutes you'll quickly find your situation is not unique: http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/pagerank-search/
It's all about the site-backlinks. Read this interesting article http://www.jimboykin.com/site-backlinks/ maby you'll find your answer there.
Hi thegypsy, I read links you mentioned and found them sort of very informative, and I am encouraged to take apart in the SEO stuff and I am encouraged & flamed with the thoughts that I can still do well. BTW, I was not talking about th TBPR, anyways it was nice comments and information I gained from you. Thanks
Spot on - for determining the value of a page for text links, PR is still the most convenient and quickest way to establish a price.
YIAM, I don't think that the googlepages aid it to rank higher(anyways, it might be a factore). Rasputin, agreed to you that is the only thing that is making sense to me but still a confusion that it was regarded as a supplemental pages earlier than how comes it doesn't only get out of supplemental index but rank #1 for that keyword.(I didn't create any backlink nor anything for the promotion of that page as far as I remember). WhatiFind, I read the article you mentioned it seems interested and make sense to me however I can't find backlink to my own site ranking#1 i.e http://funnyswf.googlepages.com/ can anyone see any backlink on google for it? Thanks for such great comments let them coming in
You just created a backlink to that site. Besides i see a handful on yahoo http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/advsearch?p=http://funnyswf.googlepages.com&bwm=i&bwmf=a&bwms=p
The inlinks you have mentioned are showing most of internal site links further, I have already watched the backlinks @ yahoo. but can't find any backlink in google.
Just because links don't show in google means nothing, google link commands are almost worthless. It matters whether you have the backlinks, not whether they report them back to you, Is why I pointed to yahoo.
Well another consideration of course is that U are going by TBPR and your site is actually NOT a PR0 any longer. Live PR is different the TBPR. THe next TBPR update could have you at PR3 (the basic) How old is the site?
If your page's content matches the text "18 rules of successful life" more than the PR5 page, there's nothing strange about your position. What's the URL again? Is it funnyswf... ?
My site is about 6 months old and I don't use toolbar, I use prchecker.info for checking pr and I also checked live pr tool and it still shows I have 0 pr.
Don't matter all the PR checkers are getting TBPR data.. it's all the same My guess is you smiply haven't gotten PR (TBPR) via update.. I launched a site in September that is still waiting. It ranks and get's traffic NO PROBLEMS and it is a PR0 (or at least by the TB). I am certain (as with yours) that it will be a PR3 (they hand em out like candy) on the next update So, it is REALLY a PR3 v PR5 I would say Keep in mind, PR is a LIVE calculation and it goes well beyond 10. The TBPR stuff is simply a snapshot of it in a digestible format (0-10) and is exported every 3-6 months or so... thus the problem with it as a metric
I have seen PR0 pages ranking at no1 on G. Checked the backlinks and they have zero backlinks showing on G and a few here and there on other search engines how do they get spidered even let alone ranking no1.
