Not sure I understand your point. Yes of course the seller must PM the buyer the URL. But the issue here is how buyers lets the seller know they are requesting the URL. I agree with all the other posts in this thread that doing this all via PM would substantially clean up all the unnecessary (repetitive) forum posts. Vito
You mean seller should go and PM all the members of the forum that he is selling some S**T! "Anyone interested?" If thats not the case then how the heck seller gona find out if someone is interested in buying his crap? To Shawn- Please create some MASS PM sender tool
I think there should be a option in post like reply this post via pm.I think this is the only way to prevent can you send me url posts..oh btw.. Please pm me the url j.k Saad
I actually think the opposite... The seller is trying to sell a site, should it really be up to the buyers to pm THEM? I myself, will NEVER PM a seller asking for the URL, or more details... waste of my time. If the seller wants to sell a site, PM interested buyers... that's the way it should be IMO. Oh - yes I can see how it would clear up alot of the "please pm me URL" posts, but if the seller doesn't want to include the URL in the thread....... expect to get them!
I wish for the love of god the thread starter would at least let us know the terms of the deal and the niche of the content. I dont know how many times I have asked to find our the niche isn't righ't. I also do not like when they reply with the URL and have no reference to the terms which are in the thread.
Oh--- wow what world do you live in... When you look for a new car do you tell the dealer to drive it over to your house...so you can see it ? You wouldn't want to " waste" you time going to the dealership right?
Now that's a totally different situation, and how nothing to do with the 'online world of selling' The way I see it: If the seller is trying to sell something, A) Post the URL in the theread B) Use a url cloaking service .. such as tinyurl.com C) Break up the URL so it cannot be picked up ie: this is my url . com or something similiar, you get the point. D) PM all interested buyers, since they want to waste everyones time by not posting it.
Both sellers and buyers have responsibilities in this matter. For the sake of clean forums, the seller should post as much info publicy as he possibly can and potential buyers should them PM about what's left out. This avoids repetitive posts and gives both parties exactly what they want. The seller gets a good list of potential buyers, the buyers get what they need at the expense of just one extra click as oppose to posting 'pm me' in the thread. So... 1. Seller posts all possible info 2. Buyers PM for the secret stuff or post publicly if some already publicized point needs elaborating and warrants a public answer to the benefit of all.
I agree with this proposal. Right now if I'm selling something, I don't mind that people post the 'PM url please', because it bumps my thread above all the other threads doing the same thing. I guess if no one is doing it, it will even out
A good title + the correct time of day is far more effective than a few annoying bumps. I've given the first entire thread infractions already so it's already in process.
No kidding. Talk about lame, this thread requires that you post a reply (bump) to qualify for the deal: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=213901
the real solution would be probably for Shawn to code a hack to let only logged in people see the url. Some kind of [hide][/hide] stuff that the seller can put on the url so that it won't be noticed by non-members and it can also be deleted/hidden after some time to make sure people wont see the url after site is sold..
That is a really good idea! im not a coder myself (can only do html and basic css) so I never thought of that.... Someone should really talk to shawn about this.. *don't know if he has read this far in this thread...*
a nice idea, but it is not good enough...there are tons of user that i will never let them come close to my site
gotta map all dmoz editors to a member group of their own and make sure the url is not visible to them Well thats probably not the "whole" solution but should work for most cases.. Other than that making people pm for url has a huge problem as well.. too many pms. getting dosens of pms and replying to them all is not a cool thing either Then the idea can be improved. So that the url is hidden and the OP can allow certain mebers see it, for example interested buyers will just click some button on the post and the seller can then decide to let them see the url or not - by either unlocking it for their username in the post or sending a pm - in one click as well. Sounds a bit complicated I know, but for a programmer it's not..
