Definitely, if you're committed to what you're doing, this is a completely realistic goal. Learn as much as you can from DP, and don't be afraid to jump in and start experimenting

Thanks - but technically the post was started in 2006, but it's great to hear to was helpful and that you thought it was worthy of being the best post in the first week of 2007, ;).

Definitely! If you create a site that is full of good quality information and you apply some very simple SEO and marketing principles to your site along with some very basic AdSense integration and work hard and continuing to develop that site and make it the best it can be then I would be surprised if you WEREN'T making $100+/month after 6 months.

I honestly couldn't answer this one for you because I have never worked with any sites other than English ones, but I'd imagine the principle is somewhat similar if not the same. Google is a pretty smart search engine and I'm quietly confident they would see two sites on the same topic but in different languages as relevant, but like I said, don't quote me on that.

No I haven't actually. I'll get around to sending them another email today.

Nice post there, surely your change in attitude is what should be most noted. I'm going to do a similar kind of post, though more blog-oriented when i get time to recap 2006 on my blog :).

Hey Burta, always enjoy reading posts like this.

Just a quick question are your sites aimed at Australian visitors or International visitors?

If they are aimed at Australian readers is it ok if I PM you a question regarding .com.au domain names and setting up a business structure.

Thanks and I look forward to reading you blog.

You know what I think people forget by the way (at least Ive never read that anywhere)? Of course it's true, that the less backlinks there are, the easier it will be to rank, but then again, I think you would have to consider the number of sites, too...b/c if its a broooad field and you have a viral marketing sort of idea, it will spread to more people and build more links..if you#re in a very small niche, it cant only spread to so many people anyways...

For example Im about to start creating a site on studying and learning French..and well that is a rather competitive field, but I think I can come up with content that stands out and is generally good..and as there are so many people interested itll hopefully allow me to get way more people to link to me, too.

But I agree on the other thing, too...of course I wouldnt let a link heavy #1 site bother me too much..if I see, that over time a top10 ranking is possible, it's all good ;) and being in the top20 would be a good start, already.

Do you happen to know how much less traffic you get from a 2nd page ranking as opposed to a 1st page ranking? I asked that question on another forum but didnt really get any good stats or experiences (one guy said he thought he read only 3% of searchers went on to page 2, but I was thinking that might be exaggerated..?

OK everyone, a fair few people asked about my "images" next my AdSense units and whether there were a breach of the AdSense TOS and well I stuck by them saying they weren't a breach of AdSense's TOS and well I officially got some feedback from the Google AdSense team today. But before I mention what they say I'd just like to clarify exactly what I have done on "some" of my article pages.

Now when I say images I'm referring to having a small blue circle with a slight bevel and 1px black border next to my ad units, they are completely generic and unrelated to the ads and not in anyway an attempting to deceived users in anyway rather just try and get more users to actually read the ads. Why blue? Because they correlate well with the blue links (I highly recommend using blue links in your AdSense units - they have almost always obtained the best CTR on my sites). Here is a screenshot:

Now when I read recently read the "policy clarification on AdSense and images", on the Inside AdSense blog, my interpretation of the post was that it was more referring to the need to remove images next to AdSense units that are in some way related to the ads or potentially deceptive, in that users might click the ads in expectation of seeing the image or being directed to a site related to the image. My generic blue circles are unrelated to the ads and are in no way deceptive to users.

So here is the main part of what I received from my Google AdSense representative:
Though from the remainder of the email I get the distinct impression that it may be a case of they just letting this one slide in my case just because I'm earning a significant amount and it is sort of in that grey area....

So I in no way recommend this method to anyone who hasn't personally verified it with the AdSense team by emailing Google yourself. That said, I don't think this method will be as effective as the previous method, but I never used that method so I don't know exactly what the overall change in CTR was, and to be completely honest the gains may not be worth risking your account over.

But long story short - don't try and manipulate or decieve your users - but by all means give your users every chance of clicking those ads by putting them in highly prominent positions and making them look attractive and part of your site.

I hope that clarifies a few people's confusion. LOL maybe Google needs to do another "Images and AdSense Clarification" post....

"At this time, your implementation does not appear to be overly misleading."

Not *overly* misleading. Where do they see it even a bit misleading?

Really, so much talk generated by this AdSense program.. :)

yes a lot of talk, but please do remember my friend different google team members can interpret it in different ways. It's still a risk in my eyes.
