Due to success of the SevenSeek web directory, we are seeing a number of new directories popping up with similar names. So far I have seen FourSeek and NineSeek. Are there any more? Do you agree with this new naming convention?
OneSeek.com, twoseek.com, threeseek.com, fourseek.com, fiveseek.com, sixseek.com, sevenseek.com, eightseek.com, nineseek.com.....shall i go on? More similar names: ExactSeek (Take a look at the resemblances of the sites structure with Sevenseek ) and Evenseek If it's available, expect someone to snatch it and develop it. If anything, it's a recognition of the success of Sevenseek that people are striving for with the similar name branding... They are all different, but similar, eh?
Come on people. It has nothing todo with copying anyone (maybe a little) The word "Seek" defines "looking" or "searching" This fits well in a web directory. I like the name and it is short and easy to remember. Just look around you, what you use, what you wear and what you eat, you can infact say that things are all "copied" Is it not? We would still be living in a cave if we did not "copied" anything or anyone. Copying leads to innovation/competition which we all know it leads to a better things or a better product. I have heard of http://www.exactseek.com first than I have heard sevenseek, who knows who came out with the "Seek" first and I don't care. The point is it was available for registry and I have been looking for a nice name for sometimes now that could be very well be a directory name and fourseek.com was one of them. Relax and join the revolution, the-Seek-Revolution!!!
I see no problem with using the keyword seek, the issue I wanted to discuss was that of using a number and then the word seek, in exactly the same fashion as SevenSeek. I can appreciate similarities, but using the exactly the same name just with an alternative number is a little different My aim with starting this topic was to discuss the implications of using similar names and whether or not you agree with it.
I neither agree or disagree i'm simply giving my thoughts about what I think. Besides, abcseek.com just doesn't sound good to me.
Not really seeing any problem with such a common phrase. I mean cmon you want to see how many directories have DIRECTORY in the title?! A whole lotta hooey IMHO.
Well, its all about branding and one can put anything before "seek" and it's perfectly legal and acceptable to me. If SevenSeek wasn't so well-known today, would you ever think of this topic? So, stop worrying about this issue. The web is a really limitless arena and everyone has the choice to brand his real estate(domains).
It's acceptable but i think it is the equivalent of living in someone else's shadow & that will be for the life time of the [insert number here]seek.com directory
I think names like FourSeek, FiveSeek, and so on, are too derivative of SevenSeek. However, FourSeek in particular could be easily confused with 4seek.com, which was created way back in 2002. That looks to me as though precisely no research has gone into ensuring that the domain "FourSeek" will be free from trademark issues. Oops.
And I got an excellent idea for a variation here... I'll tell you soon. EDIT Registered and locked. seeksteen.com No idea what for, but the potential is huge! (and no, I'm not thinking of adult stuff here. )
Sure the word seek is a good and short word to use with a directory. But, c'mon there are limitless other possibilities than simply taking another person's idea of using #seek.com. I for one, wouldn't want to put a bunch of time and effort into a website that could be seen as a knock-off - I want to be an original. The fact the owner of one of these knock-off directories felt the need to come to this thread and defend their decision to use the name should be proof enough it was a poor choice.
ROFL! But seekstynine.com is great! (no, I'm not registering this one also, though I've thought of that before. )
