back to the topic - most of israeli guys serve compulsory service (3yr) and girls serve 1-1,7 yr. i don't remeber for sure as the terms are constanly changing. Check this oficial website it has answers nearly to all your question

IDF

Military reserve - it is really not comfortable when you are working but few people try not to go to the reserve duty. During the reserve goverment pays your salary so your boss is just loosing your working hours.
Girls go to reserve as well if they don't have children and have good military profession.
