I'm sooooooooooooo depressed...

Man, am I sooooooooo depressed... ever since the news came out that Google doesn't want us to use images with ads I feel my blog "empire" is doomed. This is partially my fault, but have to also blame Google for being ok with it in the beginning.

I think I knew in my gut that they would eventually pull the plug on the whole thing, so perhaps the sooner the better.

I started in late April of 2006 and since then have managed to get up to an average of $75/day with adsense... most thanks to the image technique. Now that we can't do it anymore I'm guessing my income will go down to $10 a day.

The thought of needing 10x as many blogs or blog posts to make what I'm making now is very very discouraging.

To anyone who never tried the image technique, you missed out!

    Anyway, just had to vent...

I hope you're right, but I think it will go down quite a bit. I wish they would give us more options to help our ads get clicked!

Or you may consider shifting to some other advertisement network which supports image ads, we should always consider all the alternate ways before accepting something :)

True... I'm hoping that maybe this whole thing will force me to find some new solutions. If I do find any, I'll definitely post em' here.

I have had a little luck with blogads.com - but... not too thrilled at how they pay out. They don't pay out until you make so much money - and it can take awhile to get to the point where people are buying ads.

I've often thought a good idea would be to make a wordpress plugin that is kind of a clone of blogads.com - but you get to keep 100% of the money. I think that would be one awesome plugin.

I didn't think you had remove all images from near ads, just ones that were misleading?:

"You can definitely place Google ads on pages containing images -- just make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors. For example, if you run a stock photography site with a catalog of thumbnail images, don't line the ads up with the thumbnails in a way that could be misleading. Consider using a full border around your ads or changing your ad colors, for example."

    http://adsense.blogspot.com/?utm_source=aso&utm_campaign=ww-en_US-et-asfe&medium=link

I've seen some people labeling there pictures like "images not associated with adsense" real small and keeping pictures.

you can do whatever you want with permission, email them and ask about some different layout ideas.

"$75/day" wow, I for sure wouldn't just give up or walk away without asking.

You were earning $75 a day so I doubt it will go down that much unless, of course, you were deceiving the visitors to a great extent, in which case you should have seen this coming.

If this is the case , then you were using the images in such as a way that they were confusing people to click . Sooner or later you would have been banned .

Cheer up mate! Its not as bad as it seems! As 45n5 said:
And thats what i have done. I put a border around the ad, and the image outside the border. Like in the picture i have included below. And google have told me this is fine, i checked with them again last time only 2 days ago and got my site reviewed.

To be completely honest deceiving people into clicking your ads doesn't help you that much in the long run because if you site is constantly sending visitors to AdSense advertisers that don't convert then your account will just be smart priced anyway. Sure you might see your CTR drop but if a large percentage of your click throughs have been a result of members thinking that the link was related to the image then you might find that whilst your CTR has gone down you EPC/CPC has gone up because the click throughs are much more legitimate.

Don't worry too much there is always ways to monetize sites - Google AdSense isn't the be all end all - and I don't think you will be hit as hard as you think.

    Evil Penguin,

"You can definitely place Google ads on pages containing images -- just make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors."

Besides, you are quoting from their blog and not their TOS. In fact, as of today, their TOS doesn't even contain the word image:

    https://www.google.com/adsense/localized-terms

Email the adsense crew with any site that is in question, they'll say yes or no, not somebody here.

i only suggested he ask Adsense first, before giving up, listening to others, or getting frustrated.

Yes. Personally I always contact Google when I make any changes with the adsense on my site, so that they can review it and see if its ok or not. So just put up the adsense on your site in a way you like, and think should be ok from what you know and have heard so far, and ask google to look over it :)

yup... if you think there's no other optimization method and images is vital to get people clicking on your ads, i also would suggest you to email the adsense team first.. OR make slight modification to your site that you think will go well with them and then email them...
    good luck :)

I would agree with other posts.
Your income won't go down that much. unless as said you were being very deceptive and not just a little misleading. you can still use images near ads as long as you dont' try and make it appear that they are connected.

as you said yourself. instead of doubling your blogs and posts.
double your efforts into increasing your popularity and sites traffic.
look into other affiliate programs such as CJ or chikita or whatever may be relevant to your blogs.

i can't live link yet so sorry but here look into this
    http://www.internet-search-engines-faq.com/google-adsense-alternatives.shtml

doubling your blogs will only mean twice the work forever
verses doubling traffic which is alot of work now,, and less as time goes on.

    Good luck

Placing an image beside an ad was also my tactic. At one point I was making good money already. Since I removed the images beside them, my earnings just went down dramatically. Really frustrating.
