Moving a forum

Lets say I decide to install my forum on the index page. Then later on down the road, I decide to add content to the website as well, so I decide to move the forum to www.mysite.com/forum. How hard is this to do? I have two new domains and I want to start developing them. The main point of the site is hopefully going to be the forum and I cant decide if I want only the forum or if I want other stuff as well...

    Suggestions please.

It should be easy enough - simply a matter of moving the files into the new directory and updating the config settings to reflect the new URLs and paths.

The downside is once you've established your forum at the / of your domain, your pages will be indexed, linked to and bookmarked. If you then want to move everything, you'll have to set up some redirects if you don't want to lose all that. That should be easy enough to do but it's still extra work.

Adding content may not necessarily mean it can't go into the same directory as the forums though - most forums allow custom pages to be created easily enough. Plus it'll save you time messing around getting templates to blend in.

    Not that hard!

As you said, it's matter to move the files into the new forum directory and change the settings on the configuration file.

Thereafter, adding a simply line to htaccess do the trick for direct access to the forum

    Redirect permanent /index.php http://www.mysite.com/forum/index.php

    Code (markup):
The real downside is that we are talking about the main index page so unless you are not going to put anything as front page, a visible link to the forum is more advisable.
