I just began a directory and have managed to get the home page up to a PR4, but I am having difficulty getting the internal pages PR up. In your experiences what are some of the best ways to build up links to internal pages on a directory?

Submit your inner pages to directories that allow deep links. I would invest in a few super high quality featured links in directories such as Aviva and Alive. They may seem expensive but in the long run they will pay off.

There are also a few directory blogs that allow you to submit reviews of your directory with lots of deep links. Some are even free like this one. This thread may help too.

You should also make sure your inner pages aren't empty or full of content that is repeated on other pages or other sites.

Limiting the number of outbound links on the homepage will help too, I think zero outbound links on the homepage is a good policy.

I would suggest getting deep links as well. There a quite of bit of services offered including Syndicati, which allows up to 10 deep links + Free Submissions to 3 Directories.

The owner of Aviva Directory blogged about Syndicati's service here.

One thing that you must know is that your directory needs content, yes getting internal links is good but you want mostly good content and powerful links. I think that Site-Sift is good, I submitted my site and got listed on a PR5 page. They give powerful links!

    1. Submit your site to Uncoverthenet, Alive, Aviva, Octopedia, NoDangers and whatever directory that allows you to add deep links.

    2. If you have a blog or a site, you can create a section ' My Directory ', with your 5 favorited sub categories to boost it more.

    3. Usually the best way is to create some @links (Symbolic links) like DMOZ and Yahoo did to your sub categories and sub sub categories.
