I am a complete newbie and a far-too-stupid novice . Please go easy on me . Now if I have a website, what is an article ? Is it a write up of what my website is all about ? or is it talking about a trend and and how my website is helping the trend or Is it about why should people go to my website ? Who writes the article ? Is it the web designer himself ? Do I have to hire a copyrighter etc for the job? Is it always in English ? And then finally why submit to directories? Is there a category list I can choose from ? Thanks.
An article---if your website is about apples...you would write 300-400 words related to apples. In it, you would include a link to your website. Then you would submit it to different article directories. The idea is to increase your rankings in google/yahoo/msn for the word(s), "anchor text", that is pointing at your site in the link. You can write the article or pay a copywriter to do it for you. There are many people at this website willing to do it for you. I dont know what your budget is...but its not too expensive. If your site is in English, then the article should be as well. English articles directories are not going to interested in something written in Czech. Submit to directories to get free one way links. The "title" is what you want your website to be found for in the search engines. Its an easy mindless way of increasing traffic to your site. It takes some time to see results, but worth the effort. Good luck...
hi deyg don't say you're stupid. you're not, and people might believe you are. if you wanna submit an article to an article directory, then write a text on a subject you talk about in your website. in this text you include a few links back to your website for more information on the given subject. unless you wanna lose money you write it yourself. then you post it in a directory. personnaly i've never done it. i prefer to spend my time / money working on SEO and writing additionnal content on my website rather than rewrite the content on my site to other people's sites.
First to clear something up: Copyright is not the same as copywriting. Copywriting is not the same as content writing. The vast majority of the time, articles are "content" and not "copy." So if you don't want to (or can't) write them yourself, what you'll want to find is a "content writer" and not a copywriter. Now, more generally... Articles are informational in nature (not trying to sell something... that would be "copy"), and can be about any niche that your site happens to be about. There are a variety of types of articles, from background information on a topic to interview-based features to how-to pieces. You can submit them to article directories if you want backlinks. However, you should make sure you have unique content on your website (meaning if you want to submit to directories, use different articles, or altered versions of your site's articles) - if you're building a content-based website. As for language, it depends entirely on your audience. Who do you want reading your site, and what language do they speak? Not everything has to be in English... unless you're trying to reach english-speaking readers. Jenn
jhmattern, Yep, copyrighting Vs.copywriting Vs.content writing ..got that . Now what makes a writer a content writer ? Is he an independent referree and he advises the reader to your site ? So If I have site on Apples -- Can I ask any Tom ,Dick or Harry to write an article on apples and ask him to make/compel the reader to visit the URL somehow? Patatour, Thanks for encouragement . Isnt it true that we all start as stupid novices ? I am stupid in this web design thing (picking it up as a hobby) , but I am a Telecom System Architect and senior comms consultant at my day job - I meet hundreds of stupids there. But, what stops you to give it a shot before you can dismiss it as an option? But I still don't get one thing - Who reads these articles and where ? Where would ordinary internet user like me, who like to go on the few top sites, go and find the articles ? If I search for Irish Apples on google would it give a link about the apples articles and then lead me to 'the apple' site ? Does it make sense ? Roar, can you explain the title of the article bit and its relation to my website-'the apples'. Thanks.
hi deyg that's the tough part you spend time and or money writing stuff that will be posted on someone else's website. people will find the article probably by looking for stuff in the search engines. the article website will be in the results (probably ahead of your own site as it's older/better indexed/better trusted/whatever by google and all), they may read the article, click the guy's ads. some ( very low %) of them will follow the link to your own website. i believe, it's better to spend your time and money on your own website, then it's more likely that your own site will appear in the search results, and the visitors will be reading your info on your site and clicking your ads and putting a backling to your site in a forum or blog, contrary to reading your info on another guy's website, clicking his ads, and linking to his site on forums or blogs.
No... you can't make the writer compel people to go to your site. That would be marketing, and that falls on you (or you would hire a marketer, or someone who's able to do both for you). Writers in general just write, and some will submit to directories if that's how you plan to use the content. If you want people to read the articles on your site, then you should keep them there exclusively. You'll also need to learn about SEO, and how to market your website. You can't just throw content up and expect people to see it. Spend as much time as possible reading here on DP, and you'll learn about link building and other SEO issues, and various ways to market your website to get visitors. Jenn
