Death is not a punishment. Jail is. If you wanted saddam to feel pain and suffer and let him taste some of his own shit then you would put him to jail. I think they let if go to easy.

Of course it was, why should people foot the bill for him living in comfort in jail?

Hanging Saddam is like forgiving him. It is not question of footing his bill in the jail. Lets not forget, he made thousands of people rot in Jail with food, medicine and even sunlight. he tortured them to extent that they could neither live nor die and when they died , their death was most horrific and many times, even their relatives did not get their body for decent burial.

He should have been made to live in prison in the similar circumstances to understand what he did to others.

If you're looking to take an eye for an eye then I guess you could have sent him into the desert and then gassed him with all sorts of interesting chemicals, though I don't think giving him a creative and fitting punishment was the objective.

I'm sure he'd rather have been hanging around in prison, contunuing to be a figurehead for terrorists and dissidents until his supporters managed to free him.

Yes. I believe the murderer gets executed once convicted and receives a rejection in the appealing process.

Everybody says jail is worse then death, but I've been to jail before and it's really not THAT bad. I mean it sure as hell is no F'ing picnic, but worse than death? That's kinda pushin it I think...

It's odd that america claimed to be taking democracy to a country and the first thing they do with this new found freedom is lynch their old, elected leader, in an old barn, by a mob in masks who filmed it on a phone.

It might help if you don't omit the fact that his people were so scared of him that he got 100% percent of the vote. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/2331951.stm
So, no, to say he was elected with a straight face is a joke.

Yeah they really hated him....

Uh, no, he was put into power by a farcical election. Given your inherent British intellectual superiority to my American one, I'd have thought you'd notice the difference.

So the US AND UK did not topple a truly elected leader in Saddam.
