Hehe I believe in the 'find a job and never work a day in your life' quote, too, which is actually how I ended up finding SEO and Internet Marketing...I have to admit, that i was tempted to tackle a few projects, just b/c they were niche..but as I think a lot (sometimes too much ;)), I realized, that Id have better chances of beating sites with 500 backlinks if Im genuinely interested in the topic and know the industry than beating sites with 100-200 backlinks, if I dont know anything about the industry really...but I think ive found a couple of cool ideas where I can combine both

Ya thanks for that post. I've been stagnating at just under $100/month for ages now and seem to have lost all motivation to make money from Adsense even though I know there's way more I can be doing to give it a boost. Thanks for the tips... I'm gonna give it another go!

That's a really good attitude and I believe the same thing about tackling the things you love. I mean I'll be honest I don't look at an industry and go "oh wow that #1 sites has X thousand backlinks - I'll never beat that" and then move onto a topic that I'm not really that interested in. If you love it go for it! I mean I don't think you should ever really be targeting to rank #1 before you even start anyway, I'd be more aiming in the ballpark of top 10 but I'd definitely be happy moving into the top 20 of some semi popular keywords and then just continue developing and working from there letting time do its thing.

I mean some of my sites now have like 3,000+ backlinks and god knows I didn't submit my sites to 3,000 directories and offer 3,000 link exchanges - they just build with time and good site development. LOL look at this thread for example according to MSN it already have 12 backlinks and I know of even more links that aren't even listed there - and it was just a thread on a forum and I didn't ask for a single one of them! Good content does it's own marketing!

Burta, does your mobile phone site earn you much or is that just something you do for fun?

    Very informative thread!

Just for clarification, I know you repeated several places that the majority of your income is from 4-5 sites, but in another post you started talkng about aged domains.

So are all your sites on just 1 domain ot multiple domains?

It is a company that a run with a good mate of mine - It definitely turns a profit but it's more of a little side project that he and I started for something to do while we were at uni studying business. It's been going better of late but I'll be honest and say that I prefer the whole not dealing with customers etc - thus my love for AdSense... :p.

I have multiple domains, but the major ones are over two years old with lots of backlinks, therefore they are fairly well trusted by Google.

Thanks for the quick reply, but let me rephrase the question:

Are the 4 or 5 sites that are your major earners all on one domain?

#1 Great post in 2007! Very helpful for newbie webmaster like me. ;)
One question: do you think it's reasonable for me to set a goal to achive 100$/m after half a year withour any adsense experience before? Thanks.

Thanks for the informative post! Very interesting reading.

I have a question about the thing you mentioned about when building a new site, it should be in a category close to your old site, to stay in a category that you like.

I wonder if it - for us who arn't from english speaking countries - could work to have two websites in the same category, with the same articles, but in different languages.

    Kalle :)

Have you heard anything from Google yet? They still have yet to respond to my email, I didn't even get an auto response.
