Hi I just want to make sure that when I choose my landing page (in regards of quality score) the page needs to be a) Relevant with the keywords b) Relevant to the ad text.

    Is this correct?

    Cheers

GuyFromChicago, although your constant links to the adwords help section are sometimes useful, real world experience is much better imho as Google will never reveal what they truely want for fear that someone will somehow take advantage of that information.

Having said that, a landing page should be a part of a large site now. If it's only purpose is to get people to click through to the sponsor, then it's called a bridge page and you will exprience $10 min bids.

so for example if I write and ad for hmv.co.uk about lets say Rock music the best landing page would be this one isnt it?

The problem with the adwords example is that is not very specific!

The OP posted only two factors they were considering when thinking of landing page quality. To me that signals inexperience and therefore the learning center / faq links should be valuable in helping the OP realize what is involved in building a great landing page. I suppose I could have replied with a "yes" which would be based on my real world experience but would not at all help the OP and would possibly mislead them into thinking those two elements were the only ones to be converned about.

As far as the "Google will never reveal what they want"...I say BS. Follow the guidelines they provide and you'll end up with a decent quality score. Of course you'll have to test and tweak but the documentation Google provides is a accurate. Of course they will not give every exact detail but they do give enough information to get people going in the right direction. I make that statement based on my real world experience.

This is why in some cases "real world experience" is not the best advice. I assume you're making the above statement based on something you've personally seen? I manage thousands of landing pages that are not part of a "big" site that don't require $5-$10 bids.

It would depend on a number of factors including your keyword selection/matching options. Without knowing all the detials of your campaign I would say that's a poor landing page - not in terms of QS but in terms of the user experience. That page grabs me as a "general" page. The best converting pages tend to be pages that specifically address the query the searcher used to arrive at the page with a strong call to action or immediate answer to the searchers question/issue/problem.

Ask yourself this - what do you want a user to do (specifically) when they arrive at that page?

When you find another good working recipy, keep it for you.

Choose the page which supports your Ad and the offers provided in Ad. It must have easy to navigate and user interface must be good for the users. It provides all the necessary information about the products or services you are offering.
