I was thinking of starting an ad words campaign but i'm not sure if my site is ready. I have about 100 good pages of content. I want the most bang for my buck b/c of my limited budget. I did pretty well with my first ad sense month and SEO'd best I know how. I got on the the first result page for a google search on "free landlord software". I'm 7 down from the top. Could you guys offer any input? www.FreeLandlordSoftware.com I think, my first step will be to read the adwords guide from google. Are there any other comprehensive outlets for good adwords tips? Thanks in advance...
Are you trying to pay for adwords in hopes to convert into adsense clicks at a net profit? - Start with a very small daily budget at first - most people will find this to be a money loser. Use the keyword suggestion tool on DP to find keywords that will bring you the traffic you are looking for. You want to make sure you are targeting a keyword that people are actually searching for - "free landlord software" (don't use quotes when checking SERPS - people don't use them) has an overture of 1.2 (average of 1 person a day searches for it) and actual people who will ever visit the site are much less than that.
If you are trying to do arbitrage, I hope you fail. That's not what adwords or adsense was built for.
I have opened up a piece of software that I spent a 2 years writing for all to use for free and you hope I fail? Good grief... I would like to recoupe a little of my cost and get my website promoted. Do you have a word for that?
I do appreciate it. This is exactly the type of input I was looking for. I was thinking I want to get my site some exposure, repeat visitors, build my email list for a newsletter in addition to getting ad clicks. I sell nothing as of now. I do want to do an ebook eventually but i'm concentrating on boosting my content right now. I'm talking to an atty about putting my tenant rental history database back up. I got a lawsuit threat and took it down until I get better legal advice. Thanks again.
I wouldn't recommend using adwords to make money from adsense. That's pointless. You can spend $0.2 and get $0.18 in return...
If you are looking to get visitors to your site and you are not selling anything right now, what about writing articles and submitting them? If people like your articles they may include them on their website, or blog about your service, etc.
I think the key for this site is to ensure people return to your site or sign up for your newsletter, this means you need keep adding fresh content and hopefully you will create a loyal readership and a pick up a few adsense click on the way. Good luck
Well, the real estate ads seem to pay pretty well so that was why I was thinking of paying 1 - 5 cents per click b/c my adsense ads are paying much more than that. I do appreciate your input though. The common theme seems to be that it's not worth it until I have something to sell so I think I will hold off for now unless someone has a better idea. Regarding articles, I did write 3 which were picked up by other blogs and REI websites. They are on articleDashboard. That seems to be helping a bit as my hits sometimes come from these sites that picked up my articles. Would anyone like to exchange links? I can offer a link on my front page supporters section in return for a link anywhere on the reciprical site as long as it's not buried too deep. I think my next step will be to write an ebook to sell on my site. Then experiment with Adwords. I'm open to any other advice. Thanks All...
Is there a tool to see how many times certain keywords are searched? Does google reveal this info? how did you find out only 1.2 people search for this? That is really cool...
Digital Point has a good keyword tool that I use all the time: http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/ Also I might be willing to exchange links with you, I have a couple of real estate sites, just PM me.
