Hi, I need a CMS with some features to get started with a new project. The site should be really simple; I just want a few features. The site and its intended features: * A simple site consisting of a way to add articles to it (or let a particular user group add articles to it) * Articles need to be tagged/categorized with one or more categories * All tags/categories must be accessible from the home page * It must be made very SEO friendly, that means mod_rewrite must be used, header tags, alt/title attributes, ETC. should be used. * It should be possible to publish a yet unpublished article at a later predefined date (e.g. today I submit an article whose publication date will be in two days...) * It should have a module that automatically updates a Google Sitemap XML file * It should be easy to implement AdSense ad blocks into each article (new and existing ones) What CMS would you suggest and/or is there someone who can do the job for me? If so, what would you charge? Please PM me. Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.
I thought of that already. Probably the best idea since Joomla, Mambo or Drupal are way too complex and yet complicated to manage. Thanks.
*as far as your points/requirements are concerned you can use WP and Joomla both for adding articles but i am not sure that you can make groups and levels in WP or not but it can be done in Joomla * Yes! Articles can be tagged in both Joomla and WP but by default in Joomla you can't assign one item to multiple categories or section (please tell me if some one know how to do it); *tags/categories can be accsible from main for both; in Joomla there is a lot of flexibility but WP can work well also * Both WP and Joomla can be made SE freiendly (you would need to edit .htaccess) * In both Joomla and WP you can publish or unpublish articles; In WP articles can be publised on scheduled date and in Joomla it can be published as well as unpublished on scheduled dates; * Yes, both have modules available for G Sitemaps * i personally have never used any plugin for Adsense integration as i edit my theme/template file. But i am sure there must be!
ofcourse its strange coz it is never behind Joomla; to make SEF you have to work with both but its possible!
Thanks for the great post! Very insightful. I tried Joomla already and found it somewhat too complex and/or not that easy at first sight. I found it quite hard to "understand" their logic in theme handling and templates and such. Wordpress seems to be too limited as well. I am now trying my best with CMS Made Simple... ever heard of that?
Go with DotNetNuke and this article module. Both are free and meet your requirements very well and then some. Seems most around here are anti-Microsoft but .NET based CMS's shouldn't be ignored.
I better go and just try out everything haha. I'm quite content with CMSMS as of now though. brentl: The thing is that I do know PHP quite well so it's a lot easier for me to customize anything or at least supervise a PHP programmer if he does well I don't know anything about .NET -- little about C# but nothing special.
well I found a solution with abixalmon already. Thanks for the other input though! I might consider this CMS sometime in the future.
