you gotta take a class on logics and PR, dude :D

When the pr update occurs that doesn't mean all your sites should change their pagerank. So obviously most sites usually stay unchanged. But I've seen changes in toolbar pagerank for a few of my sites so thats enough to claim there's a ongoing pr update...

actually looks like the update rolled back.
find in forums changed to pr5, now its back to pr4 and so are the other sites.
Well i suppose you all remember how that happenned in an update half a year ago, so we'll have to wait a couple weeks now till the update is final..

Michael (and everyone else, actually), please, tell me, you aren't looking at the actual toolbar to determine whether or not the PR has changed, are you...?

Last August there was a PR update. It was most noticeable in it's rollout in that it only affected about 85% of the DC's. 15% of the DC's, to this day, are showing pre-August PR values. This means that while most of the time when you look at the toolbar you are seeing the real PR, a small portion of the time you are seeing old data. The offshoot of this is that just because you see a change when you actually visit a site, unless you have been very carefully paying attention to the last 3 PR updates, you would have no way whatsoever of knowing if there was a PR update going on.

The exceptions to this rule are if you have a site that was built after the last PR update, but long ago enough that it would be included in the next PR update snapshot, or, if like me, you have a site which had 2 different PR's from the last 2 updates, but has since been banned. In those 2 cases a change in PR would definitely indicate an update going on. People have already stated that they have seen no new sites whatsoever getting new PR results, and I already checked my banned site, but in both cases you have to use a multi-dc PageRank checker. There are several out there, I happen to like http://livepr.raketforskning.com/.

<StartHiddenMessage>Now, watch. Since Google like picking on me, it will turn out that some engineer will read this post, and think, hm, let's screw with Michael again, and as soon as I go to bed a PR update will start, making me look stupid.<EndHiddenMessage>

I need to take a class on logic??? lol ok

and PR??? no not really...I've been on the PR thing over 4 years Mike so I am pretty clear on it.

In fact I am so clear on the subject, that there is no way in the world I would use a toolbar of any sort to verify PR  and the next thing is unless youre selling links......PR is virtually useless.

Have you taken a class yourself?? If so which one??

I would not want to recommend it to anybody.

Did you call me.... :p :D Before google starts its PR update it really needs to update of of its Dc's first. Once all dc's are updated maybe then we can hope for a PR update. :)

I agree. PR updates are just...like milestones. Changes are happening each minutte and google is the fastest engine responding to it.

Generally speaking, ofcourse having a High PR is good....because generally.....this would mean that the site that we have has some kind of value. But in real, PR is just like a moment to commemorate the changes that are going on...cuz it simply takes too much resources to do it non-stop.

I have a PR 3 site which ranks in #3 in competition with PR6 sites.....it is logical, that this site is actually having a PR 5 or PR 6 currently. A link on my PR 3 site would weigh for the G algo as much as the PR 6 sites which are next to me on the serps. Not seeing the green bar up there is not that important.

Its like the evolution of cameras...in the early stages it took hours of preparation to shoot a picture...now we stream it in real time. Internet is at an early stage of development. The exponential growth rate is the main proving factor.

Once we get to the point of streaming and evaluating the PR in real time (which means that google would probably inhabit Mars due to lack of space for their datacentres), then PR will be of importance to me.

I had one site go from 3 to 4 during the last update, but raketforskning.com showed about 1/3 of the datacenters still listed at 3. When I check now, there are only about 5 - 6 still showing 3... so that's the only change I've seen.

Back then, Matt Cutts said it could take at least 1 - 2 months for some DCs to catch up. I just figured that's probably what I was seeing now.

Two of my sites were started in August, and one of them has a lot of backlinks. Still, PR is 0. On the other hand, I started one site in January 2006 and by March 2006 it had already PR3 (with only very few backlinks).

The best way to tell when an update is coming? All the shit floats to the top...

A prime example of this is watching "http://mccoypottery.com" with a kw of mccoy which always ranks number 1 in the big three btw, ends up on page two. Then you look at all the shit sites in the top 2-3 listings or the first page in general and can pretty much derive that as usual, all the shit is floating to the top. In a week, they will scrape the shit off the top, McCoyPottery.Com ends up at number 1 again, and the shit is at the bottom of the heap again where it belongs...

It's like this every time there is either a PR update of some type of "daddy" updates.
