if you talk of progress and development, then india has less no of cancer patients, in the west where every family is prowd of having one member of the family suffering from cancer, in india we still get surprised when we hear that our relative got cancer. it's too rare, and in the same way, other diseases are also rare.

you can say the total no. of people suffering from diseases are big, but then we have 100crore, one billion people in india, that way it people with disease are also high, but there percentage is low in comparison to other countries.

Over the past few years i have made some very good friends from india but for some reason most cant get along with their fellow indians but my overall expereince has been very nice

While I hate the concept of reservations, I must say that you are wrong in your information. India is not the only country to have reservations.

Even the United States had to go for affirmative action and give reservation to blacks in educational as well as other spheres of life. Though now reservation has been scrapped there.

There are many other countries where affirmative action was taken to protect those who were not being able to become part of society...

but the kind of reservation arjun singh, our heinously corrupt HRD minister has put forward is not at all affirmative action. I'd rather call it destructive action.
