Seeing as WikiPedia pages can be modified so easily by anyone, have any of you tried adding a link to your site on a WikiPedia page? For example, say your website was a good one (not MFA), all about baseball. Would you look up the wikipedia page about baseball, and add your link? If not, why not?
I have and some have stayed. Others were promptly removed. It's worth a shot but indeed only add quality sites and don't overdo it too fast or they'll mark you as a spammer.
I've not placed links there, but several of our sites are listed there, mainly as referrence points. The traffic is nominal at best.
I've got a few in - pretty easy with "quality" sites. The ones I've pointed to less than quality sites get yanked pretty quick.
They are very anal about 'commercial link' so be sure they don't look commercial. And scroll down for 'related threads' we've had loads of good threads on this topic already.
i've tried it before but unfortunately it didn't last for a week...competitors edit it or theres something wrong with it that it was immediately removed...a friend also tried it and fortunately i last for a long time although i'm not sure if its still there...
I think you just need to be sensible -- you may be able to add links in niche areas where there are few editors and you are linking to a quality site that adds some additional information. I'm just about to do the same thing myself on a page that I previously edited...I'll see how I get on! Give it a go, can't harm...
That's my biggest problem as well. For some Wiki entry it seems like people just site there all day removing any edits that they don't agree with. It gets worse when a single person has decided to 'claim' (for lack of a better word) the entry and remove any edit that they personally disagree with.
This is interesting, I wonder if mine will stick. I added only one link to one page, the site is good quality, but it does have adsense ads on it... I'll check in a little while to see if it stuck!
News flash: Add quality content with your links, or risk removal. Mine (over 20) have all stayed, mainly because of their authority... If someone came along who was a better authority on the topic, I'd expect them to disappear.
just checked mine and yep, still there. i thought wikipedia didn't bring that much trafic... at leat for me.
I have couple sites specific to respective pages since last 6 months. Few got removed though. I don't place link there anymore.
so what are you concerned about? links from wikipedia to your sites? i never saw a link:http... to my site with wikipedia linking to me, is this what you're thinking?
