I thought it would be a great idea as well, that way any .xxx can easily be avoided.

I read something recently though that said they aren't going to be adding that extention (wish I could remember where, I think it was another thread here at DP).

    Yeah.
They would have been nice though. For the companies that contain adult content it would be required to register it under the domain .xxx. These could then easily be filtered out. The registrar's could also remove any adult oriented domain that didn't end in this.

This would create a legal online red light area.

Well it's legal already, so I can't see how creating a specific TLD would be a bad thing

I support .xxx and ban all porn sites on other TLDs.

I agree, this would open up a wide variety of domain names as well. I've stumbled across decent domains, that had nothing to do with xxx material, but ended up just redirecting to bad sites.

This would also be easy to ban p0rn sites, I'm in full favor!

    Been rejected. Wont happen EVER.
Porn pays the bills but no one will accept it in the real world.
New tlds are created striclty for money since there is really no need for new tlds. Newest scam is the .mobi

I think they should have allowed the .xxx then it would have been easier to use parental controls to ban all .xxx domain. I also think that if this had happened all porn .coms should have been removed and replaced by the .xxx varient. Even give then the .xxx for free

which is why it'll never happen. Why would the guy who owns hotsex.com give that up, and get hotsex.xxx instead? He has years invested in branding hotsex.com and some busybody comes in and says, welp give that up, your new domain name is hotsex.xxx instead.

If it had happened when the internet was created, it'd be a different matter, but only slightly. Who is gonna be in charge of deciding what content is acceptable on .com or needs to be on .xxx or .net or .org instead? Its a boondoggle.

More extensions just means more spam.

if they've approved .xxx they'd support the porn thing and this is bad, so the whole thing has been denied ;)

Exactly but I would like to grab sex.com :D

In a perfect world they would have done this when the internet started but as you have said its literally impossible now.

This topic has come up many years in the past, it will most likely never go anywhere. I would support it, but it's not going to get off the ground.

Contrary to my previous post, most of the names that would become available would be useless anyways because they would have had a lot of bad reputation in the past, and most likely still indexed.
