Yes, I know they’re a million forums out there, but everyone wants a piece right :) Any who, I am working on a niche forum, but I need a very cost efficient (read free) way to increase exposure of this forum. I was very successful in marketing my directory is there anyway to do the same with the forum via lists or "announcement" services?

    Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem. I've started several forums bhpbb, smf, etc. But I always have trouble attracting people to join.

1 thing that does work is word of mouth. You join mine and I'll join yours. Once a few join others with follow. Bedyond that not sure.

Maybe that's a good idea for a company. Advertise your board. or soemthing like that.

Actually I was thinking of soemthing like that already.

I just registered www.mblite.com and .info on the 30. Was thinking something like that.

    Thanks,

Forums..can be a huge headack with SPAM and other fun stuff they load on ya ..if you do start one ..be TRUE to it and work it as a moderator ..or get some moderators..I have seen good forums wasted in a few months from SPAM attacks.

And make sure you place your ads in a seperate section like an area and tell the "end user" that ...they seems to like to be told were the ads are at and were there are NOT ..that get a a nice world of mouth.

Most all fourms to start ...unless.... it is a HUGE following of some sort ..use a News system that poulates readable stuff for future sign-ups... and it works.

    Hope this helps ..

I'd suggest exercising as much creativity as possible when advertising a forum. Effectively doing so could very well eliminate the need for a large budget.

What's your niche if you don't mind me asking?

Spread the word about it . Discussion forums and sometimes social networking sites can get you traffic / members but then you need to have something on forum to make them re-visit the forum .
Running up some contest can be considered as another way < but I would say to do it after you manage some initial members > .. Initially you yourself need to post good on the forum and make some threads which are interesting enough for people to reply to them .

You need a nice layout for the forums to make them stand out. A huge deal of interesting topics and replies to make people want to join. You need to promote it a lot and and work a lot on it. Forums are hard to get off ground nowadays, but they're worth every effort :D
