Guys , I have a directory which has 1028 active links & 246 pending links. It was free till now. Should I make it a paid directory now ??
I must admit that I will only pay to be included in a directory if it has a fairly good pagerank. Otherwise I will only submit my sites if the directory is free. I assume the directory you are referring to is your World of Web Directory which doesn't appear to have a page rank. Having said that however, if I did have a directory I would have both a paid option and a free option, as there is always someone who will pay to be listed first regardless of the pagerank.
I've notice that even if you make it cheap like abuck, you'll find it hard to get people to pay. You could hold your breath and make it pay and keep getting backlinks and promote it well. You could also keep it free and check your current listing for garbage links and delete it and replace it with new quality links.
Keep promoting / Develop a PR and if its good enough then submissions will come even if its paid directory
i dont see why you can't make it a paid directory now. It is never too late. in addition, look at the number of pending links, i must say it is a tedious job just to review them. By having it paid now, you are less likely to get spammy links. you have enough active links for now. So before the PR update, it is reasonable enough to make it paid for low fee.
Well , thanks for your opinions & suggestions. I have decided to make it - Regular - $0.5 Recip - Free Featured - $1.5 All rates are for lifetime I am surely going to get some PR (maybe 3 or 4) when Google Updates, so I will increase the rates then.

You could also add the top 5 for processers in variation 1. e-gold 2. money bookers 3. xoom 4. 2co 5. ??? whoever else is good If you want that link you will buy it regardless of paypal. buy adding more options you add to the % sells made. Good point!! But Paypal is very popular and it makes life easier..And as yet I've never seen any dirs that have implemented other payment methods.
People are less willing to pay nowadays unless you have good pr.. I agree with mixke，it is better to make it paid as the very beginning... I owned a few free directories and when I tried to make it paid, nobody submits.
Well i have added 1 extra for biz-king which is moneybookers and www.adult connection.info now has 3-4 different options now. ill do the rest soon enough after i get a few other things done first. Its to early to tell but cant hurt..... only help. thx malcolm
