The company confirmed Friday that some users of Gmail, its popular email service, had their email accounts wiped out, with messages and contact information being permanently deleted. Source: http://www.thestreet.com/_more/newsanalysis/technet/10330198.html Was wondering weather this is a rumor or what? Was anybody here affected? Thanks, Ruslan
None of my friends were affected. Sad, now Im getting unsure if I want to store my emails at gmail :/
I've still got mine. Yes that does stink if you want to use Gmail to store e-mails. Google is at a point where they gotta get this stuff under control (yes these things do happen but its google). Skinny
I love my gmail account and i'd say if they deleted my account, i'd be pretty pissed. It really sucks for those who lost their accounts.
It might be true, and not for the first time. A few months ago I was unable to access one of my gmails accounts because the user supposed did not exist. Later, trying againg because I have found bugs for years on that login system, I found that my email was granted to another user
I cant even imagine this.I mainly use my gmail account for bussiness and if it get's deleted then i am messed up.. Saad
I would never rely my business correspondence on a service that I have absolutely no control over. But that's just me.
Wow, I used to not have much faith in Google, but I got over that because I thought I was just being a bastard. This gives me pause, though, especially since I've started using Gmail as my primary email service again. I am with you, saadahmed007 - I would be royally screwed if I lost what's in my Gmail.
I wouldn't use any free email service but google seems to reliable company..i never expected this from Google Saad
What would you recommend? I gave up using ISP emails because everytime you swith service, you loose that email. Web emails are good because you keep them forever. But what combines both?
Wow, I guess I better start backing up everything I have in there. I've used the same Gmail account since 2004 and losing everything would change my life.
Some people use their Gmail account as a backup to which they email their nonsensitive data. To lose the account would be a bummer. EDIT: For those who do use Google Mail to hold data that is critical to you, it might be wise to get a free Yahoo or similar large-capacity email account as a double backup.
Wow... I'd be in trouble if I lost mine, too. Guess it looks like I should move some of my mission critical stuff elsewhere.
I wouldn't rely on any email service, free or paid, to reliably keep all my essential emails. Just like anything else, you have to do your own backups, just in case a server gets fried or something.
