I don't know if this has been posted before as I searched and haven't seen anything but I was reading the Google OS blog and found this. Just some food for thought and have a happy new year!
if you suppose the importance of a page = rank of a page then its true google measure the importance from the backlinks but if you suppose the importance of a page in SEPR then it all depends on your content.. better quality content = high chance of SEPR for a query...
Definitely some good food for thoughts . btw I guess algo has 100parts . Anyone know the other parts < apart from links / content > .
Head Tags - Individual title and meta description tags per page. Server - Dedicated wins over shared at times. Site architecture - CSS & xhtml wins. PR - No need for me to go here lol Domain Age - Older the better usually. Freshness - Adding fresh content helps. Authority - To beat about, wiki, ebay, you need to be more of an authority in your category. Traffic - A site with no traffic will not see front page results. Would you recommend a friend to a hotel nobody else visits? Some of my findings however your mileage may vary. Happy New Year!
i have read it before . i dont remember where but i read it . i think it's a clever choice , every click is vote for a web site
Yes I've read this too. Google monitors click behavior, the time a user spends at a site, and navigation paths. Thanks for the other tips to, Clint.
How can google measure the time a user spends at a site??? Also, why wouldn't people create click bots to up their search results if Google utilized clicks in any significant way (or are people already doing this)?
Honestly I don't know how they would track the time spent. Unless, you have the Google toolbar installed and are using the advanced options in which they can be monitoring almost anything. I've always been a little sketched on using the G Tbar because I use it a lot. I don't know how to tell explain how much I use it but between my home and work I use it a ton. I know Google is recording my " internet browsing behaviour " yet I allow it because Google has been very kind to my clients websites and my own. I know a lot of people at the store I work for use Google to search for products on our website. Instead of typing in the name of the website, they use Google to search for a page instead. Laaaaaaazy. Sometimes I wonder though if this kind of searching/browsing helps boost the store's website in Google's serps. One of hundreds of possible factors that could help it be doing well in the organic listings.
according to google, they count links for research purposes, in order to give better service to the users. there maybe some effect on your ranking, but if so, not much.
there is a simple way to check time on a site. you do a query and click on a SERP result. If you didn't find what you were looking for click back to SEPR again, they see that you spent 3 seconds on the site so it can't be that relevant. I guess if most people who click on your site in the serps come back after a few seconds then your site can't be all that relevant.
Glad to help, thank you Hi Anita Google would use Urchin stats to check time on their site. Your webhosting stats would show this as well to some degree. You can also use professional tracking software like others do. I use hitlens from Webceo. Yes people have used bots to generate clicks, however Google is not dumb and can usually find the bots and discount their clicks. I use Adlogger to tell me the same information on multiple clicks from users, and the software is something similar to what Google would use to combat the bots. Happy New Year!
