I own www.ps3center.net and I bought a PS3 myself for resale. After numerous tries on ebay, I noticed that I won't find a real buyer on ebay. So I spiced things up. I brought the PS3 to my fathers car body shop in Montreal, Canada and I repainted the PS3 white. I actually made the world's first white ps3 In the last 5-6 days I`ve had over 50k hits. The article was featured on most gaming websites. Many big ones such as : Engadget.com, Kotaku.com, Gizmodo.com, Dailytech.com and many more. It was even aired on Television on Attack of the show on G4 Tech TV. Definitely a successful marketing campaign, i wish you the best of luck selling the unit on ebay. I'm sure with all the exposure some rich PS3 fanatic will snap it up for a decent price. The only problem with this kind of marketing is it's generally a bit hit and miss. You can't expect this sort of stuff to happen every time you launch a new service or product. You obviously had the product (and a pretty cool one at that!) and the traffic came naturally. Anyway, good luck with the sale.
Youtube brings quite a lot traffic. I uploaded a funny video from one of my site, beleive me it bought around 250-300 uniques a day.

I wonder what other colors would work for this type of thing. I sell ethernet cables, among other things, and often find people wanting the weirdest color cables (pink, purple, yellow, green, orange) to match their decor and/or electronic equipment. If you folks move forward with special color PS3's, I can help with matching cable colors. JR
Wow very cool marketing idea. Only one problem, and it is really where you might have shot yourself in the foot. You voided any warranty. Hope it doesn't break on you or a buyer
The lesson here is that all you need is some way to stand out above the crowd. Something so simple as painting something brings in a huge amount of profit, visitors, and exposure. Excellent work!
I really doubt that the warranty will cause any issues for me. I mentioned on the auction that the warranty may be voided and I`m not responsible for any hardware malfunction. Anyways .. when you buy something off ebay .. you usually don`t have a warranty anymore. I bought a cell phone from japan.. didnt have a warranty and it still works flawlessly.
