Someone had their vbulletin license revoked for moral reasons only

If this was the case, don't you think that jelsoft people would have mentioned it instead of waiting for you to make comments that you have no proof for?

I totally agree with Alvin. Vbulletin does have a monopoly on forum software, as does vbseo! There are alternatives, but I use vbulletin. The only issue i have had is they don't offer support unless your forum is bone stock!

That was posted in the thread on vbulletin.com and also quoted here on page 1 in this thread. A statement like that is all I need to know that Jelsoft has nothing to do with this.
What exactly do you expect them to do? Make an announcement in their forum saying "WE DIDN'T DO THIS"?

I can't believe grown people just take some scumbag at his word when he makes up some e-mail conversations. I guess being gullible is really attractive to some people.

Then who is responsible for it? Piratereports?
I don't have much knowledge about the law but as for a I know ( i could be wrong) if you hire someone (in this case Vb hired PR guys) you give some authority to act on your behalf. So you are directly or indirectly responsible the actions of the person you have hired.

And no need to fight here.. everybody has right to express themselves!

    Unless you're on vBulletin :p

I don't see why Wordpress hasn't pulled this sort of thing...I've seen much worse "proudly powered by Wordpress". I guess because it's free.

    Ummmm ---

The problem is -- Howard from PirateReports also made a statement that he didnt do it.

So - who did what? And more importantly - what IS the policy? An official statement wouldnt hurt.

If it wasnt for the fact that I would I would loose a reputation point by removing one of yours, I would school you on web etiquette. I assume that you have been around the web long enough to realize that using all capital letters is the net equivalent of screaming at someone. Mind you, this is a forum for open minds to share ideas, not to scream at others like a 2 year old.

The server, content and complaint originated in the US, please follow the FACTS a little closer.

What I read here is Steve confirming he never stated there is an AUP which proves he knows what he said and nothing else.

Now, i found the above comment rather funny:

What is funny is that I have never purported myself to be a lawyer nor am I paid to give legal advice to anyone. Next time you board a plane try getting the Chief Steward to fly the plane on the basis he can count passengers so must know the way to the destination as its the next step up the skills ladder.

Good system but I never stated anyone had breached any contract so it doesnt apply.

The complaint stated the site was Illegal and as I am NOT a Lawyer I took the complaint in good faith and passed it on for a decision giving my personal opinion. Obviously that does not count for much in the real world but as we are now focusing on freedon of speech I believe it also applies to me.

Again please follow the facts, the belief was the content was illegal, and I also find it morally distateful. Thats one fact and one statement from me under freedom of speech.

A few multi posting individuals highlighting the fact that cartoon child abuse is being misnamed Loli and stumbled across by kids into furry, cuddly art is more likely to speed up the introduction of good laws to protect innocent children who deserve more from society. If I become a casualty of that so be it.

That's not the conversation I had but you know best.

This post is yet another which should be assigned to the category "Why let the truth stand in the way of a good story"

I thought Capital Punishment was dying out but it seems we are bringing it back for acting in good faith now. I am just off for my last good meal whilst its still hot.

I guess your short-term memory only last 2 seconds, which is ok. I don't want to blame you for living in this world.
To recapitulate what I said multiple times: Jelsoft denies they have something to do with it, Piratereports denies it, so that Hongfire guy MADE THIS UP.
Can you two remember that sentence long enough to form a reply or shall I give you the summary later?

Let's recapitulate what has happened up until now:
Hongfire guy posts some mails. Jelsoft denies involvement. Piratereports denies involvement. No further evidence as to what has actually happened. Some gullible guys believe everything someone says without the need for further clarification and blow this story up.
    The End.

Piratereports hasn't denied involvement, he is just claiming that he personally did not stumble upon the site and decide to take action based on his own beliefs, that it was reported to him as illegal content and he passed it along to the company. My only complaint with Howard is that he doesn't attempt to verify claims before taking action, but I can understand his stance on this. He is not a legal researcher or a lawyer and with the volume of pirated licenses and license agreement infractions out there, he can't be expected to waste days in communications with each individual. His job is to find illegal usage and stop it. A few toes get stepped on, but this is the price a company pays while protecting their intellectual property. Like I stated previously, I do have a slight problem with a company relying completely on an outsourced employee without making attempts to verify their findings, but like others have stated, some companies are perfectly comfortable doing this and we don't know that they didn't. They may have believed that it was illegal content as well, until finding out otherwise. I doubt they have a team of legal researchers in-house...

So I don't think it was a matter of moral issues as much as it was one of a misconception on illegal content, which does violate their license agreement. In the US, this type of material (virtual child porn so to speak) is legal, at least the last I heard. This was a rather controversial issue a few years back, which is the only reason I know about it's legalities. Aside from that knowledge, it would be perfectly reasonable for someone to assume that it was illegal and take action against it.

Personally I don't think this is a blackeye for them... It shows that they strongly will not tolerate illegal content, but at the same time it shows that they are willing to work with people who may have questionable content, which can be proven is legal. If it were a matter of morals, they wouldn't have budged.

He hasn't denied anything and in fact has done the exact opposite. I'm done talking to you, I hope it's just a language barrier and not complete stupidity causing you problems.

I see, you are still as full of shit as you were in this thread: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=200797

He has denied that he revoked the license. Check this out:
He said he passed the claim along, and Jelsoft denied that they revoked the license for objectionable content. What more do you need? This is about some guy claiming his license was revoked because Jelsoft apparently didn't like his forum's topic, which, as it turns out, is bs.

And as to your "language barrier" and remarks about "stupidity": The fact that my English is impeccable should tell you that there is neither a language barrier nor that I am "stupid".
But judging from your posts in the other thread I can understand that you are just full of shit and want to prove to the world that you are awesome. That's fine. I feel sorry for you.

Jumping on his bandwagon makes you look even more stupid than him.
