it depends how you look at it. some iraqis believe it is for freedom and democracy. Sadams greatest accomplishment was unifying a country of different tribes, using fear, faith and politics. our country was founded with the same method. a lot of blood was shed before we became the nation we are today. we may have disrupted their transformation to becoming something better, but then again we may have intervened at another halocaust. we get the diluted version of the real story from media and our government. but when the water settles, we may get some truth to all this.
Puh-leeze! That would be akin to putting Hitler back in power. "He wasn't so bad, he just sent millions to the gas chamber." Tell this to the Shiites and the Kurds and they'll simply laugh you to scorn.
Mattknc, there are many hitler type world leaders today, some just gide it better. If saddam was hitler then he was helped to power by own cia in a coup. Guys read up on oil contracts during the time he made it into power. Doctor Mohammad mossadegh was another pro democracy leader who we helped take out because he wouldnt allow us to get controlling interest in irans oil so we helped get the shah of iran in there which lead to this islamic extremist government that is there now.
Killing Saddam will be just another mistake since it makes him a hero and a martyr in that part of the world. Just wait until he is executed when in the Arab world they start to look at him as a martyr freedom fighter who lost his life for the Arab world independence from west invasion instead of tyrant that he was. He will be much more dangerous dead than alive, you can kill a person, it will be next to impossible to kill a martyr cult.
Making him a martyr is all a part of the plan as it will cause even more chaos out there. And they want the bastard hanged as soon as possible too to achieve that aim. More chaos = more troops = an excuse for the USA and Allies to stay there for longer and a call for more of them "enduring bases" (enduring means permanent in this case ) Saddams death is the best thing to happen for Cheney and the rest of the crazy gang to carry on their quest to destroy the Middle East.
We interrupt this pity party for an update: 48 hours Now back to your regularly scheduled pity party for a mass murderer.
wow, and it came from NBC...what a shocker...usually left wing media doesn't display a story like this...
How about hanging him and then we get the heck out...liberals always love to look at the negative side of Vietnam, I mean Iraq "cough, cough". My prediction is that with Saddam out of the way Iraqis will hopefully start uniting because they will actually see results...
That's a typically bad reply from you GTech (as usual.) We are not saying that he should not be killed, he was an evil bastard and deserves to die. What me and gworld were referring to were the long term implications of making him a martyr, but you will never understand that so it's a waste of time trying to tell you that.
Such half brain way of thinking is the reason that after so many years of occupying Iraq, this administration is still running around like a mad man and trying to form a plan for Iraq. At present time killing Saddam will only increase the hatred for Americans in Arab world since the people in these countries will see USA as the real killer of Saddam and not Iraq government or it's show courts. I am in no way claiming that Saddam is the same as Che Guevara (three movie during last couple of year) or Dr. Allende but ask yourself, how many people in the world still remember the former and how many know who was the USA president or the head of CIA when they were killed. A dead martyr is 1000 times more dangerous than a live person.
I think the majority in Iraq (Sunni's I beleive, since Saddam was a Shi'ite (although I might have that backwards) want to see him dead, not a martyr, only the left wing Muslims (who credit themselves with the democratic win in Congress this year) will see him as a martyr, along with the democrats.
It shows how much you know. Saddam is Sunni while majority in Iraq is Shiite. No wonder this administration is in so much trouble, they are as smart as their supporters like you.
Suddenly, those that bash and trash America daily are concerned about America, now that an evil dictator is scheduled to die Most Arabs hated saddam too. He's only a martyr if people set out to make him one. Iraqis will be the one getting and carrying out the justice he denied to millions of others. As history will show, he was a mass murderer.
These are the same people who said many years ago that acting irresponsible like this administration was doing would result in the loss of Americans life and world prestige while you and your friend had your cheerleader uniform on and cheering for the president's photo opportunity on the aircraft carrier under a banner mission accomplished. Now with thousands of American soldiers life lost and even more injured and handicapped young people for life, even the president is admitting the loss and mistakes and trying to form an Iraq policy. A true patriot will fight for what is best for his country even if it is not a popular idea and not supported by the administration. On the other hand, any moron can be a good cheerleader and just agree and cheer for what ever government says.
Who are you kidding?lmao! Sadam is the reuniter and the enforcer without a strong leader like Sadam (a dictator he is), the place is nothing more than just another Palestine full of chaos and griefts. Be nice if it could transform itself like Turkey or much better yet, Dubai in the coming future, but it wont and it can't the entire region is poisioned, whether the U.S and allies presence is there or not it wont make any difference. Sadam is charge with killing 149 or so civilians, but the war itself has killed far greater than it saved. If they must hang Sadam, the sollution is to breakdown Iraq into 4 places much like how we did with Germany. 1.for the Shi'ite 2.for the Sunni 3 for the Kurds 4.for the U.S where the oil fields is at The U.S side will be broken down and shared among the participating coalition countries who help to bring Iraq in such's a chaos hell-hole as it is today.
No, this is saddam hussein, mass murderer and his time is about to expire. Your pity is duly noted and expected. Irresponsible was sending half a million people to mass graves, acid baths and other unimaginable destinies. Boo hoo
Considering his letter telling people not to hate, I think Saddam has finally come to his senses. Unfortunatly I don't think anyone that should have been listening was. In the world of terrorism, when one leader falls you leave them behind and go with the strongest survivor.
Perhaps there is a Hallmark card for such occasions? AGS, living in in fantasy land! Oddly enough, that's probably what terrorists would say too. Maw and Paw must be terribly proud
