Anybody making $1000+ per month with a directory? how hard is that?

Apart from regular link submissions, how else you make money?

Advertising on prime landscape....but that alone will not get you $1000 a month :D
    CPC/CPM ads?...umm
And yea $1000 a month is very hard.

    That's vague advice.

It's what you invest in that really matters. Don't go buying pixel space or candy bars and expect to make money off of that.

Link Buying can get you in trouble and advertising at the wrong places can bring in bad results.

Do your research and make sure you invest in methods that will bring you the best chance to make back your expenses.

I have to agree with a lot of folks here. The more you invest the more traffic/popularity your site will get. It happened to my directory as I sponsored some free templates recently. Good promotion requires some dinero behind.

Well, as an owner of a directory making near what the OP has asked, I can give you a bit of advice.

It DOES cost money to make money. However, NRLmedia is correct. It is where you invest that money that really counts.

I found out the hard way that it costs A LOT of money to buy links, and advertising on other sites. The truth is, that investing that same money into your own site will pay off MUCH better. My philosophy is this. I don't pay subscriptions for links. Isn't my money better invested every month on adding to my own site? At least when I add it to my own site, I don't lose it as soon as the subscriptions stop!!

There are a million ways to invest in your own site. Adding high quality articles, adding a custom script for your visitors, unique designs and aesthetic improvements, and anything else that will be useful to your visitors. The important thing to remember is that the more you are able to give your visitors, the more they will not only come back for, they will also tell others on the net. That equates to free, natural backlinks, and returning visitors!

    Good luck with your directory!

Not necessarily. "Read the fine print" and maybe it's 100% with a lot of risk.

Just love it, this advice is so good I have no words; you have written what I think for a long time. Investing in links is important, but also or more important is to invest in your site. Most directory owner’s focus is too much on link building and not on value creation on the directory.

    Great Advice.

Back to the question yes $1,000 is perfectly attainable is only an average of 1 submission a day if you charge around $30.

Of course agree, and would expect all who invest to evaluate the ROI on that investment, before they make the initial investment.

Any business is risky; I think directories are a high risk, high reward business.
I think the quality and niche directory markets are only starting and loot of room to grow, as more sites get registered every day and more start focus on SEO and highly targeted traffic.

Agree and that is why the market will have to have a correction an adjustment as nearly all the directories are primarily at the moment just lumped together in one mass of directories

Of course a few sites are become strong niche players and that is excellent, but there is still a lot of QBC's out there, and this is where the market correction needs to be concentrated on downsizing the QBC sector

Sure it is high risk when along comes a QBC Directory gets a lot of paid listings then does nothing there after with that site .............. then guess what they then open another new site ................. same template ........... different 'eye candy' ................... then take a lot of paid listings ........................... then guess what the same again:eek:

That is why the market correction is long overdue the market has to have integrity to be creditable

I think $1000 can be made in a directory for a month if you spend a lot to popularise your directory

First at the beginning the investment should be heavy as they are capital investment

With all of the directories out there it is important to take the time to gain traffic, and in turn convert it into profits...
