There seems to be at least TWO MAJOR schools of thought on this The Challange: Once and for all - to uncover the official explanation and the Pratical explanation on the difference in a page/site having a completely WHITE pagerank bar and a Completely GRAY pagarank showing Can a Webpage have both on different datacenters P.S. The July Dance MAY be just starting now...
I thought; a grey bar ment you aren't in Google's database. a white bar ment your in the database but your have a PR of 0/10. am I wrong? do you think something else?
White PR bar = in the index, but either 1) has a PR of 0 or 2) hasn't been given a PR yet Grey BR bar = site not in index (because not yet found)/site banned
I just added a brand new page 3 seconds ago. It's PR bar is all white. That does not seem to support your theory? I also checked a page I added a few weeks ago, which is in the Google index but which does not yet have PR assigned to it. It's PR is all white also. I just checked traffic-power.com, the site famously penalized by Google recently. They show a PR0 with an all-white bar. Does anyone have a sample gray bar page for us all to examine? P.S. I do not know the answer myself. P.P.S. I am color-blind. When I say it's all white, you might want to check for yourself.
Google's PR....the bar has been going on and off for the last 2 days....think they have a prob...one minute....we are showing 3.....then the next white...showing nil...grrrrr Ps not seen grey one yet ???
www.traffic-power.com is definitely grey for me. I made a new site two days ago, it was grey at first, then today, it turned white. once it was white, I was able to view the cached version.
yep...its grey...ok....dont know why??? . My site has been changing....over last 2 days... on minute....ranking...next nothing???
what is the procedure for getting a banned site reincluded? considering they give no exact cause for a ban in any reply i think it would be hard to find the problem you were initially banned for? has anyone had a site reincluded and how long did it take?
I haven't had a site reincluded because I haven't had a site banned. honestly, I think in most cases, if you're doing something that can get you banned, you'll know what you're doing wrong. ... but there are exceptions, like all the people that were had by traffic power.
I notice that when I upload pages they are gray until crawled; then turns white. Doesn't seem to be indexed; just that google is now aware.
In my experience If your site is indexed it is white If your site is not indexed it is grey If a page is secure (https://) it is grey If a page has pr it has some green If your site is indexed and you add a page it is white straight off even though it hasn't been crawled. If you see any other colour other than white green or grey, ease off on the pills or take more... whatever the case may be

It used to be that a gray PR bar was an indication of a page the google did not have in its index. While a white PR bar was either a site that had a very low PR or a penalty. Pages with penalties would show no links with the link: search even when a manual search revealed that there were links that Google knew about and the page would not rank on the keywords it contained. Nowdays I think the grey bar still means a page that Google does not know about, but pages with white bars now can show a hundred or more backlinks with the link: search and more than a thousand links with a manual search and even rank very well for competitive terms. This seems to be more in evidence since the last shakeup three weeks ago. While I sincerly hope this is temporary Google anomaly, I would not discount some changes in the algo either.
I have had this conversation in the past. It seems that earlier versions of the toolbar show a grey when a site hasn't been indexed, while newer versions of the toolbar, show white when the page hasn't been crawled. We have both versions of the Toolbar installed on various machines at work, so I can always see when there is a difference in the displayed results. Personally I use the Firefox PR plugin - this doesn't show grey
