If you have 5 IP, I would suggest the following setup.

1st IP : Server Hostname (remember to setup rDNS)
    2nd IP : 1st Nameservers
    3rd IP : 2nd Nameservers
    4th IP : Shared website
5th IP : Reserved IP, can be used in a emergency case

sometimes it needed when some clients wants dedicated ips for ssl. As ssl on shared hosting needs a dedicated Ip so if you are a webhost providerthen you must have some ip,s in hand to enable dedicated ip addresses to your clients. If you ever handled WHM then you can see while creating account to provide dedicated ip or not.

Yes, it can be better in the way that your IP address is isolated to one domain name. If the owner of the domain name does spamming on the IP, the rest of your IP is safe as it is not listed in the blacklist.

If you are hosting your own website, put them on 1 IP address because you do not need to spend $ to buy more IP :D

You should have at least one name server on another server for redundancy. Although if your web server is down, I guess people could not get to your website.

Also if you need an SSL cert - you will need a dedicated IP address for that.

Most people use them for SSL, as indicated previously in this very thread.

My host gives me however many IPs I need as long as I use them :) (I know people bash on GoDaddy but I love their VPS and dedi plans in that way... other hosts charge for IP addresses, with them it's just an email and a couple hours later you have another one in your server... no hassle... no cost) I think it's one of the major reasons why I've never moved/

Granted I have shared accounts elsewhere for cpu and diskspace intensive sites so I don't fill up my own server with that stuff but still :)

Along with SSL ,you can set Reverse DNS for domain name on Dedicated IP . It's good practise w.r.t. stablity, uniqueness and SEO .
