Is a forum like DP really worth it?

I'm here to learn lots of stuff regarding SEO. I'm interested about that.
Now, one question on every two that I have, gets a red rep.
And I use to get the reason why. Most of the time is : search
It looks like I don't search enough before to open my mouth :(
But if the reason is I didn't search enough, why not just go on Google?
What can I do if I have a problem X? Please Google it...
What can I do if I have a problem Y? Please Google it...
So, then, all and every forum are worthless because all information you want to share or to learn are on Google (or Yahoo, or whatever...)
(I may get a red rep for this one also...)

Oh you naughty, naughty boy! No, I won't red rep you. All that DP does for people is fairly evident as this site goes well beyond simply searching for stuff online. Interaction between members is the key here and you simply cannot do that with Google.

I think the red rep thing has gotten a little out of control. I got some red rep yesterday just for making a post to thank someone for showing me how to do something. I think it said something like trying to increase my post count

People are telling you to do a quick search on the forum to see if your question has been answered before. It's not all that uncommon for me to see 3 copies of the same question all in the same screen. If the issue is similar to your own, you might be able to use that solution, if not, you can still likely post there, and then the advice for that particular kind of problem will be a bit more concentrated.

If you do a quick search and the first few results don't come close to answering your question, a new topic is generally justified.

You may be confusing red rep with an infraction. Red reps come from other members but infractions come from mods, admin or Shawn.

Well I can understand your situation and its not possible for someone in a hurry to search for all combination of words to find an answer. Its very much possible that the answer might be there but might not surface unless you have hours to search. Or it might not be relevant anyway.

Anyway as far as forums go I think there should be leniency in this regard. The mods can very well close the thread after pointing out the previously existing thread. Or better merge the threads.

Wasnt someone saying we have only 10 mods, too less for DP; I agree.

Don’t worry about them rep reps, we all get them and in most cases it might seem unfair. After being on DP for a while you start getting the hang of things and consequently learn when to ask something and when to search for it. You can always do what I do, close the little rep drop down window and ignore them all

You see, you could get a red rep just because someone may think you didn't bring anything good to this thread with your post
    But I won't do that, I'm a good boy ;)
(Give me a rep+, I deserve it now...)

Ok but why? What is the reason?
It is like everthing else, it's a number game.
But doing the opposite? I don't get it :(
Anyway, it's no big deal I guess..

Don’t worry too much about it. If you like what someone said on a thread click on the grey scale (Top right corner) and choose “I approve”. If you don’t like or get offended by something someone said do the same and choose “I disapprove”. ;)

Yeah I don't worry to much...
But if I like it, I approve...
If I dislike, I move on...
If I got offended or insulted, I disapprove...

It's more the 'Why?' i get one which bother me.
You know, before anyone post a thread on whatever subject, the answer is on Google.
So some members give rep- because of that. That's all...
