As for me - there are two sites for discussing and surfing new info - BHW and Digitalpoint. I don’t like reddit or similar ones.
Hi, Dp was very popolor while we started our carrier in 2010. Admin should look on it and make it better with poll, quizz, contest, freelance section etc.
There are too many sites to manage these days. X, FB, Insta. So no time for DP. No clients. No freelancers.
Nope. But with that said, Google is run by arseholes. I tried to report things a person posted, but if they claim in their TOS that it falls under satire, they don't respond.
The decrease in user activity and engagement on DigitalPoint has significantly affected its perceived decline in the online community.
Forums die because they don't have an app version. I don't mean just the responsive version. The best and unique way to try to revive a forum is to create an app.
If forums were available as apps, with options to subscribe to specific sub-forums, upload images directly from phone cameras, and include a more user-friendly direct messaging feature similar to modern messengers, forums wouldn't be dying out.
Yeah, I noticed that too. DigitalPoint was such a vibrant community back in the day. I think the rise of social media groups and platforms like Reddit took a lot of the activity away. Plus, forums in general aren’t as popular anymore—people seem to prefer instant interactions now. It’s sad to see it so quiet. Do you think it could ever bounce back?
A big reason is the rise of other platforms like Reddit, Facebook groups, and Discord, which offer niche communities and faster engagement. Many users have shifted to these spaces for discussions, networking, and sharing knowledge. Additionally, forums in general have lost some popularity over the years as social media took over. It’s sad to see, but times change, and online communities evolve with them.
It's a shame that forums are nowhere near as popular as they once were but, as with vinyl records, I'm hoping there is a resurgence at some point. Not everybody wants to spend all day doomscrolling on social media and there is a lot more quality info shared in the good forums vs tons of noise on social media for people with short attention spans. At the end of the day people go with the path of least resistance and follow what everyone else is doing, which is watching cat videos. Then you get the hipsters who will stick with things like forums until they are no longer an option. Anyway, I hope DP survives and I'm going to start posting in here again after a long and inexplicable sabbatical.
I feel like Discord has killed a lot of forums, made worse by the fact that Discord added a threads feature back in 2021. I know of a few communities that used to have a forum and Discord server, and they kept the forum alive because certain things were better discussed in a thread style (like this thread here on DP) rather than a load of messages that just get lost easily. Then, Discord added the threads feature, and that removed their need to maintain their forum, so it was deleted. Having said that, some forums shoot themselves in the foot by having too much advertising, a tired looking interface and lack of moderation. I see plenty of forums where spam bots have a field day... AI has also made forums less attractive, which is something that Reddit suffers with as well. I personally cannot stand AI posts on forums (it's so obvious when a post is AI written).
