It is not just there, of course. Look at the low information types right here in the U.S. If a political demagogue like Cuomo said that you have to hop on one foot while chewing gum to beat the virus, you would be hard-pressed to find space to walk on the sidewalk with all of the nimrods who would be out there. While, of course, his inane policies are actually killing thousands of nursing home residents, destroying large percentages of businesses, and causing thousands to abandon his state. "Because science" is the hallmark of demagoguery here as it is supposed to stop all debate as to what works, what is worth the effort (versus the downsides), etc. E.g., if the Trump boogeyman for these clowns says Hydroxychloroquine is a potentially helpful therapy, it must be shouted down with bleats of "Trump Bad" and even so-called "scientists" will join in the chorus rather than actually checking to see if it does work as many, many doctors state.

This whole charade has been an eye-opener to the West's enemies (e.g., China, Russia, Iran, etc.) who have watched the feeble-minded insist on shutting down the best economy the world has ever seen because of a flu virus. They will take note at how mush-headed and cowardly a large portion of the West has become and proceed accordingly. And the world will suffer for it.

    Wow, this aged well... NOT!

Oh yeah, it so magically ended. This shows who the real nose-breathing half-tweets amongst us are. I've seen some STUPID huffing **** the past four years, and this entire thread and 90%+ of the responses rank right the hell up there.

Because "it's just a flu virus" is about as re-re as you can get. How many of us have to die for "the almighty dollar"? 400 thousand? A million? Two million?

we're already at almost 100 times the number of dead in the US alone of Pearl, 9/11, every domestic terror bombing of the past 50 years COMBINED. Around half of those infected will spend their lives with PERMANENT damage (like the damage to my lungs having been through this shit right at the start).

ENOUGH with your conspiracy theory bullshit, psuedo-science dismissal of the disease, and general f***wittery!

<sigh> There are a small number (thankfully) of pajama-boy sheeple who spout nonsense on DP and think that they can use nasty language, vitriol, invective, and emotionally-charged statements to win arguments. That bullying-type behavior works occasionally for them with inexperienced posters, but if you calmly point out their inanity and ignore their ranting and raving, they become more and more hysterical in the thread until they finally bow out in dejected silence. It is actually amusing to watch.

Let's just explore one of the fallacies being pushed by the Swamp/Fake News and bleated out mindlessly by these low-information types: one of the Big Lies of this whole Covid lockdown argument is that if you are for normal business operations and a great economy, you are for more death. In effect, their false premise ultimately leads to the fake equation that Business = Death in the Covid-19 Era. If that is the case, then why don't we shut down agriculture, grocery stores, utility companies, food processing plants, hospitals, etc., to save lives? They are businesses that clearly must be spreading the virus and killing people. Well, that is because the political demagogues have determined that there is this concept of "essential businesses" that have to remain open. Note that it is the politicians who get to draw the line on what is "essential" and what is not, thereby giving them the type of power that they have never had before but desperately crave. Those with half a brain realize that the real equation is Business = Life. Business is what feeds, clothes, houses, etc., you and your family. And, if you are a single mother whose only source of income to feed your kids is the hairstyling business you used to run, well that is just tough luck as the politicians really do not care (not a single government worker has missed a paycheck throughout this nightmare, btw) because they do not deem it to be "essential" even though it is clearly essential to you and your family. Note that WHO has indicated that more children around the world will die from starvation from these stupid lockdowns than the total deaths that will occur from Covid-19. Business = Life.

Now, why would these power-hungry political demagogues push policies that have resulted in the destructions of 25%+ of all small businesses and caused so much pain and suffering for workers, employers, and severely damaged their tax base? As always, follow the money: who has benefitted from the lockdowns? Amazon and other Big Tech come to mind. Other large businesses that can ride out the storm also benefit from the loss of competition of small businesses. Guess who makes the big donations to these power-hungry politicians? Big coincidence, I suppose.

Now, let's look at the lack of reasoning underpinning the shutdowns, themselves: it has been long known (probably since Spring 2020) that the virus really has no statistical impact on people younger than 65, unless they have co-morbidities. But, that fact has been conveniently ignored by the policy makers who have other, more sinister, motives in mind. If they truly were focused on helping people (not just acquiring power and money) all that they had to do was lockdown nursing homes and tell elderly or sickly people to stay inside and let the rest of citizenry take care of them while all business continued. Instead, we see schools being shutdown when children are known to be basically unaffected by the virus. The ridiculousness of this policy, of course, is lost on the low-information sheeple who continue to bleat out "Business Bad. Lockdown Good." and other emotional claptrap.

Finally, there is there is the issue of adults and risk. Millions of people will die this year from automobile accidents. People die all of the time on the road through no fault of their own (e.g., getting hit by a drunk driver.) Why don't we shutdown all traffic on all roads to save lives? As adults, we are expected to decide on our personal risk quotient and some do decide to stay off the roads while most do not. That is a free society as opposed to the Nanny state that the pajama boys are whimpering for and the politicians crave.

Based on past experience, I do not expect a thoughtful, reasoned response to this post, so let the name-calling, vitriol, invective and hysteria begin. :)

I'm always fascinated by the people parroting lies referring to other sources as "swamp/fake news". Apparently one doesn't need the WHO, John Hopkins, Bethesda Naval, Brigham and Women's, or the Mayo Clinic when you have Faux News and Q-Anon.

One of the bigger lies is that a lousy proper four week lockdown that would prevent this would be worse for business than the continued half-assed pretend "precautions" that are making the likes of Bezos billions WHILE gutting the small businesses.

FOUR WEEKS. Simple basic S*** that used to be taught in grade school biology!

    (incubation period + contagion period) * 2

Once for maximum isolation, and again for distancing and safety precautions.

FOUR WEEKS shutdown for everythign except essentials -- food, utilities, public safety (police/fire/medical) -- and four weeks of social distancing and masks... and we'd be DONE.

Completely done. It would starve the disease of victims killing it off. No differnet than robbing a fire of oxygen.

But no, that's "too hard" for sociopathic America.

It's not about "business is evil". It's about starving off the available food source for the virus so it dips below the sustatinability level, SO WE CAN BE DONE WITH THIS AND STOP DESTROYING BOTH SMALL BUSINESS AND LIVES.

We could have saved thousands of now defunct businesses if we had taken said precaution and steps FROM THE FLIPPING START! We could have been DONE with this 11 fliping months ago! How many businesses AND lives could that have saved? Moving forward, how many lives and businesses could it save?

But no, we have to plod on with half-assed half-wit half-tweet hair-brained dipshit bullshit nonsensical super-spreader events, catering to anti-mask morons, and resulting in thousands upon thousands of preventable deaths DAILY. Because "freedumb and jeebus!"

Thank you for defining something you claim politicians get to "arbitrarily choose". You just defined "essentials"... and then claim it's the demagogues who did so when that should just be common sense. We can't shut down everything, but there's a lot we can to lower the infection rate below its viability factor. And that's ALL a proper shutdown of non-essentials and the various precautions we should all be taking boil down to. Lowering the rate below the viability of spread. Like putting a glass over a candle.

We shut down everything we can get away with without starving people to death, freezing to death, having the dirtbags run rampant, or dying from lack of medical care. We dip into the coffers to make sure everyone can survive this, and if that means dragging the tax rate back to the 1950's so be it. Is that REALLY so hard to do? Hence why it's so absurd the amount of self-packing you've done with the fudge in regards to:

Be interesting to see where you got that bullshit figure, but I suspect it's like tall the other bullshit you keep parroting. If food distribution and social aid is handled properly, FOUR LOUSY WEEKS would not result in the thousands upon thousands of dead we're seeing DAILY in the US. What was it yesterday again? 3,973 for Jan 14? 60K+ dead the past WEEK alone?

Sorry, but -- at least in America -- WHAT lockdowns? We've not had a PROPER lockdown as it's been damned near 100% voluntary... which is sad that most Americans wouldn't know what a proper quarantine even is. Probably because 95%+ of the population old enough to remember when it was a thing are now in the grave; same as how they had to wait for the great generation to be dead to bring back fascism as "hot and trendy".

"You've probably never seen a "Quarantine" sign on a neighbor's door. Diphtheria, scarlet fever, whooping cough; probably none of your classmates are crippled with polio. You don't see many mastoid scars anymore." -- Bill Gannon, Dragnet, "The Big Departure" 1967

If anything those companies you've mentioned -- like Amazon -- have profited from the LACK of proper -- to borrow from SLJ -- "Stay the F*** at home" because the virus continues to rage. Proper precautions and behaviors have NOT been enforced. The closest America came was two weeks way the hell back in March, and even that ranged from half-assed to nonexistant in terms of what NEEDS to be done.

And why? Because of equally heaped piles of bullshit like:

When that's utter shite. Whilst sure there have only been around 100 child deaths, 12.5% of all cases are children and well over half will have long lasting permanent side effects as a result. Hence why statements like this:

    Are also ignorant bullshit.

Lasting effects after surviving the virus for healthy children and adults includes Crippling headaches; unexplained fevers; Permanant lung damage; Tissue damage to the nerves and joints; Unexplained heart murmor and palpitations; Anosmia (a loss of smell and taste); and possibly even brain damage due to nerve receptor dysfunction. (hence the reports of "brain fog" particularly in those under age 30)

But yeah, no "statistical impact"... of course not.

I know from my own experience having had this, the permanent lung damage is real. I may have had a laundry list of health issues before infection, but my lungs were always the one thing I had that were in perfect health. I don't smoke, I had been biking 20 miles a day to stave off diabetes, and I've played the saxophone my whole life so I had lungs of iron. Now I can't even bike to the end of my street before I'm beet faced and huffing and puffing like a chain smoker, and that's after some 10+ months of "recovery". Including lots and lots of "long-tone" exercises. I can't even hold a middle A for a measly two measures! And that's without needing to be intubated like so many others who have faced this.

I'm reminded of the dirtbag "physician" who called the nasal test the "most invasive procedure I've ever performed". I know a few proctologists and nurses who've had to catheterize people who wouldn't mind having a word. Much less all the women who've had pap smears what wouldn't mind going ten rounds in a boxing ring over that statement. Ranks up there with other conservative dipshit f**wit bullshit like "real rape can't result in pregnancy" or "homosexuality is a choice".

WOAH, REALLY? That would be up what, 1,960,000+ from last year? Again, more bullshit from the bullshitters. Lemme check... 2020 numbers from the NHTSA aren't official yet but are reported as down from 2019... and 2019 there were 36,096 fatalities. So yeah. Millions... FFS there's only 330 million or so Americans in total.

For f*** sake nearly as many people have died the past WEEK from covid than did in auto accidents for 2019. Chew on those numbers for a while.

You don't help your cause by pulling numbers out of your ass that are off by a factor of 50 or more. That's the type of halfwit nonsense Trump OR Biden would pull.

Because shutting it down temporarily for a few weeks wouldn't help stop this mess cold in its tracks. ALL WE NEED IS FOUR FLIPPING WEEKS OF A REAL SHUTDOWN to prevent thousands of deaths every day for the coming year. Shutting down the highways for four weeks isn't going to change what happens when people go back out on the roads after.

Again, the type of false equivalency lame excuses expected from the lack of empathy common to both sociopaths and psychopaths.

Much less the "flatten the curve" concept so that medical care can keep up with the load. In many places EMT's are now being tasked with triage, effectively deciding who should even be driven to the hospital when clearly infected based on their probability of survival. Not just leaving behind those who "will probably make it" but leaving people who MIGHT be saved behind because of a lack of resources.

But again, "who cares about 4000 or so dead every day" according to sociopaths like yourself. What if it was your mother or father sitting there dying in a hospital bed and you're not even allowed in the BUILDING with them?

And even the vaccine won't help as much as it could if we don't clamp down on this hard. Why? Because by letting the disease run wild we open the door to greater risk of mutation. Variant 20 has already been reported in the wild and dimes to dollars the vaccines being distributed won't work on it. The longer it is allowed to go in the wild and the larger the infection base the higher that risk. Same as how over-use of antibiotics leads to more resilient bacterial strains.

But no, four weeks of sacrifice followed by four weeks of precautions are too much for the people reveling in a sociopathic lack of empathy. Hence such dirtbag narcissistic statements as "well it only really effects people over 65 or with pre-existing conditions, so f*** them if it inconveniences me!". As if we didn't have enough confirmation from your other posts on these forums that you're a sleaze.

Which is basically what you're saying in your lack of understanding of biology, epidemiology, sociology, or just plain basic human decency. Given what you've said, I can only assume you're a psychopath, as otherwise I have no clue how you even sleep at night as you've sailed right past sociopath island. Will prove interesting to see which of the honeypots I've laid out aid in the psychological analysis.

I don't believe in the halfwit fairy tale, but damn we could stand to have Jesus come back to flip over a few tables and chase conservatives around with a flail.

I assume that's me you're referring to, just to let you know I haven't bowed out in dejected silence as you put it, I've basically realised that arguing with a dangerous narcissistic sociopath such as yourself who's blinded by their own ignorance is a totally pointless excercise.

Just remember, because Trump has told you something doesn't make it remotely correct however much you want it to be, as evidenced by recent events. Have a nice life of blissful ignorance.

I am sure that there is a lot that fascinates a pajama boy like you hunkering down in your cave and being spoon-fed fake news. But, REALLY??? You are still pushing lockdowns as millions and millions of highly effective vaccine doses are being distributed? I suppose that it takes a clueless leftist to look at a program with many, many variations that has failed miserably in the U.S. and around the world and say that all we need is more of it and then Utopia will arrive. Apparently, Business = Death is much more important to you than the virus, itself.

It is really good that you mentioned the source of your thinking because the "plan" below reads just like a weak, sixth-grade science essay. More on that below.

Okay, so this so-called "plan" will starve the virus to death, basically by creating a "lockodwn bubble" that it cannot penetrate, according to your math and "science." Like starving a fire of oxygen, as you state. Sounds great on paper as do all failed socialist experiments, but, let's focus in on a key phrase buried in your nonsense above:

What??? This very incomplete "essential" list alone represents millions and millions of people that will be working together, travelling everywhere, and basically will be living in and out of the "bubble." This alone blows a hole in your "plan" that you can drive a truck through. These millions and millions of people will provide any virus a safe biological haven to spread and replicate for years and years. That is why no health or public safety official in their right mind has suggested that it is possible in this modern world to quarantine our way to health. Ridiculous.

Bottomline: this ill-conceved and unworkable plan may sound good in a grade school report, but any reasonable adult recognizes that it is the result of sloppy thinking, something that you do a lot of. More on that below.

You are not just a sloppy thinker, but you continue to be a sloppy reader, as well. I have advised you previously to have someone with at least a sixth-grade education nearby when reading posts like this so that you don't make the continuous silly reading mistakes that you specialize in. Case in point is this clueless statement above. Let me explain in words that you can hopefully understand:

Did you realize that there were 60 automobile deaths in Cyprus in 2019? Why do I ask? Because that statistic has the same relevance to my comment that your USA statistic has. Go back, and try to read slowly what I wrote. If you are careful or have help, you may note that I did not say "in the USA" or "in Cyprus" or anything like that.

In fact, I was referring to worldwide statistics published by both WHO and the CDC:

1.35 million people die in road accidents worldwide every year — 3,700 deaths a day.

    https://policyadvice.net/insurance/insights/car-accidents/

Try to read this slowly and get an explanation from someone as to what it means. I picked this particular statistic (there are many, many more such relevant ones) because it so closely matches the Covid-19 worldwide death rates right now. I understand that numbers like this do not fit into your Fake News narratives and must be disputed at all costs without regard to facts or logic. Best to distract with vitriol and invective. But my point about adults and risk stands as does the statement I made about traffic deaths.

LOL, I see that you and your fellow pajama boy (more on that in an ensuing post) have learned a new word since you were tagged by another poster in an adjacent thread as being a "narcissitic sociopath" which perfectly captured the essence of your pathetic existence. Anyone who has had the misfortune to witness your many, many previous meltdowns, rants, etc., knows how perfect that label is for you.

More of your sloppy thinking and pseudo-science on display here. Not a single scientist or healthcare professional has indicated that any of the mutations will not be stopped by the current vaccines. But, I suppose you have a lab in your cave to prove otherwise? Pseudo-science babbling at its best.

I think that we can just look at the sum total of your archived posts on this subject. You cannot go back and change them to hide your psychoses as you did with the original garbage you first published in this response. I am guessing that you had someone sane review your ranting and try to put some sense into. It failed, but it is a pity, that we do not have your original screed to review. It was very telling and, in fact, extremely disturbing. More on that below.

It is a pity that I did not take a screenshot of the original, poisonous statement you posted here before skulking back in shame to whitewash it. No matter, your proudly, self-proclaimed hatred and bigotry against Christians and Evangelicals has been well-documented in many of your posts. In fact, you cleaned up this statement to try to hide your vile and disgusting beliefs, but the other posts in the archives tell the true tale and it is too late to go back and edit them. I suppose that you are fervently hoping that all of these religious folks die from the virus or some other disease, instead of sending them to the gas chambers?

It is important that DP-ers be reminded regularly of your evil and disgusting beliefs.

LOL, you have delusions of relevance. And your insecurity is showing.

I know that you feel the need to jump in and defend your pajama boy friend, but you are as pathetic as he is and no help to him. More on that below.

Last I recall, you left that thread while whimpering about being a nonpolitical person while spouting political nonsense out of the other side of your mouth in your typical hypocritical fashion. Then, you later had a magical "light bulb" moment that told you to stop engaging in discussions like this.

So you felt the need to jump back in to repeat the same "enlightment" you whined about before?

What is most amusing is how stung both you and the other pajama boy obviously were by him being perfectly tagged as a "narcissistic sociopath" in that other thread. Both of you are frantically tossing around psychological terms now and desperately trying to tie them to others. However, anyone, who wants great evidence of a true sociopath, can see that adjacent thread right in this section that one of these pajama boys posted. It will tell you all that you need to know about the subject of psychological issues with these two clowns.

BTW, how many more posts are you going to put up telling me that you are no longer going to post any more?

Yes, I do engage in name-calling but only with posters that use name-calling as their stock in trade. That's because I know that it really bothers them, despite not adding anything to the discussion, as evidenced by how much the phrase, "pajama boy" obviously has bothered you. So, you are now four posts beyond your statement that such exchanges are "pointless" and even more posts beyond your magical "lightbulb moment" announcement. I suppose that these statements were just more bluster from you?

Just to get this thread back on track and answer the OP's question, No the Covid 19 didn't come to an end in December, it's still going on despite what the fake news spreaders think.

Our lockdowns have hurt the economy so badly that our restaurant owners can't get enough staff!

It's not a bad problem to have, all things considered, at least he's trading.

    Everyone's trading.
Just been away for the weekend, last-minute plans, very limited choice of accommodation, roads busy.
Family business going well, our friend's businesses are going well. House building is booming. All the visible signs of a healthy economy are there.
Aussie company I've worked with just announced a huge merger.

So long as nothing slips through from our "Quarantine Camps" we'll just keeping going until we get the vaccine rolled out.

Interesting anecdote. Perhaps you could absorb our out-of-work restaurant people? The U.S. National Restaurant Association reports that over 16,000 restaurants have permanently closed here. Many multiples of that number of restaurants are actually closed, but have not announced their intentions regarding re-opening. Bottomline, according the association, there are 2.5 million restaurant workers out of work who could help your guy.
