How are these people finding which domain I registered? Everytime I register a domain, I get some 50 emails from various people, some selling website design, some hosting, some something else. How do these people find out when I registered a new domain? Thanks
You should better use whois privacy service provided by the domain registrar. There are some domain registrar which offer it free of cost. Namecheap.com, Epik.com, Namesilo etc
One time I registered a domain name and accidentally put my real cell phone # (I should've known better than that). I started getting dozens of spam texts and phone calls every single day. I then changed that phone # to my old phone # in my dashboard. Up until today (3-4 years later) I still get occasional spam texts and phone calls because of that stupid mistake.
I get that, I should privacy protection etc. But my point is, how are these people finding out that a new domain has been registered? Is there some kind of service or something? Thanks
Registrar selling contact details ...... According to me its just white hat blackmailing If you are choosing privacy protection and pay extra money to them then ok otherwise they will sell your data. And i notice also that if you book domain like SEO123 dot com then also spammer will try to convenience you that your site ranking is not good or we are offering this package with website designing ...... means they are not checking domain name or anything else they only buy data and sending email in bulk.
Of course its bulk email. I replied to some, got no response back LOL Many years back I read something about this. Someone was providing this service. They kept track of new domains registered and sent an email on your behalf to registrants. Just wanted to know if someone is still doing this...
It's only GoDaddy & Name which want extra $$ to protect other like Namecheap, Namesilo and Epik provide Whois privacy service free of cost.
I see also this option with Bigrock .... About Godaddy i know already because my experience is very bad with godaddy. Did not use other like namecheap etc so can not say about them. And i think if you will choose privacy protection then can not see details of contact person at Whois also.
All registered domains are listed in the domain zone files, for example, zone files for .com and .net TLDs are maintained by Verisign. But it's not easy to get access to them.
There are lots of sides that provide the information.. here are some listed below. To Spy Neighbour's IP - https://securitytrails.com/ To see another domain/s register with same email ID (put email Id or domain name in search box) - https://website.informer.com/ To check reverse AdSense - https://dnslytics.com/reverse-adsense Cheers !!!
@MayurKawale Thanks for the sites, but I think these people are using some kind of automated email service, which is somehow getting a list of new registered domains, then its getting whois records and sending all those spam emails on behalf of their subscribed clients.
Due to relatively recent changes to available domain registrant information to conform with EU laws, identifying information like name, phone, email, etc is no longer available using a WHOIS search. So, when you register a new domain or renew your current domain all identifying information is supposed to be hidden and therefore not available to the spammers. I have two domains and neither one of them shows identifying information. I have had them for years, never paid for privacy, and never have been the subject of spam.
@mmerlinn For me this started recently, just last year. I don't use godaddy etc to register domains. My domain provider an Indian company I think.
It does not matter who your domain registrar is. All registrars worldwide are authorized by and registered with ICANN. In 2018 ICANN changed their rules to conform with EU dictats. Those dictats eliminated personal and contact information from public scrutiny via WHOIS. Until 2018 names, phone numbers, email addresses, and so on were publically available to anyone UNLESS that information was hidden (usually at a cost) by the registrar. Today, all of that information is automatically hidden, and some registrars no longer even ask for it. One of my domains was registered with GoDaddy, but no longer is. The other domain was never registered with GoDaddy.
Yes, that might be possible... or there might be an automated script which will find out the new registered domains.
Just I checked and looks like whois still providing some information like email and phone no. etc. Here are few example who.is/whois/ibm.com https://who.is/whois/aajtak.com and other EU domain as well.
Around a week or so after I buy a domain, I get a call from one or more "web developer" . These use to be from Eastern Europe but now mostly from India. Been going on for years
There are a few ways to find newly registered domains: - there are specialized WHOIS providers that scan new WHOIS data and publish them online - domain registrars may have commercial agreements with third party providers - hosting companies may also do the same when linking a site to a server or just adding nameservers - DNS resolvers (usually your ISP or someone else's ISP) may also share resolving data. So if you ever "visit" a new domain you just purchased, your ISP will be aware of it instantly. - finally, a lot of Top Level Domain registries (the actual operator of the TLD extension) share their zone files with third party providers. These providers may also share the data with third parties. That's a lot of potential sources for finding new registered domains
