@jrbiz and normally I'd agree, but how do you explain that other countries (like Russia, the UK, Germany, France, etc.) being shut down as well? They are not interested in what the democrats here think or don't think. I asked some people the same question and didn't get a reasonable answer yet. Covid, in my view, is a different beast. It's more deadly and that's why we have a greater panic.

That is actually not that hard to explain: The coronavirus has the absolute best PR firm in the world: the U.S. FakeNews media. Keep in mind that one of the biggest purveyors of news in the world, is the Associated Press (AP). They provide newsfeeds for most of the media in the western world. Note that more than one AP reporter has been outed as being part of the FakeNews conglomerate. Then, keep in mind that much of the press of the western world is aligned, at least philosophically, with the liberal FakeNews that we suffer with here, so it is really easy for them to follow their lead. So, with FakeNews panic porn being streamed to every corner of the globe, what is any politician to do? Ignore it and suffer the daily drip of deaths that will inevitably occur while being admonished for doing nothing? Their sheeple and low information voters act no differently than what we see here. It is much safer to do stupid things like shutdowns than try to explain why you haven't done so. And that goes for dictators like Putin, as well. He can then focus on other issues of more importance to him if the public is not clamoring for action on the dreaded coronavirus.

I have commented many times at my day job that I wish we had the PR firm that the virus has. One final note: as more and more data comes in and time progresses, the death rate for the coronavirus continues to drop significantly. My guess is that by the end of the year, the fallacy that it has a worse death rate than the usual influenza will be exposed. Keep in mind that the CDC insists that we count people dying in car accidents as virus victims if they happen to have it when they died.

Every Halloween I go all out. I put up decorations on my wall, leave the gate doors open and hand out goodies to the kids. But with the Covid-19 virus do I really want the kids and some of their parents coming to my door? I am still debating this in my mind. How about the rest of you, are you doing the Halloween thing this year as per usual?

You're seriously losing the plot with your constant banging on about this fake news bollocks, not everything is about Trump and USA politics, it's getting fucking tedious now.

I am not expecting any kids to come by. I think that it may even be banned by the government. Usually we get 120+ on an average Hallowen.

You're probably right; it's just that what is happening right now is unprecedented in my 40+ years of following U.S. politics. I suppose that I need to get over the shock and awe of the devastation we are witnessing. My favorite retailer and four restaurants I really like closed forever just last week.

The one thing the pandemic is glaringly revealing is the businesses that were thought of as robust and sustainable are not, and the ones we thought of as insignificant are actually very vital to our existence, if you will. Of course it's all tragic since multiple lives are negatively affected by all of this.

Some might say that it has hurt the businesses most that help humans to do the most human of things, which is to socialize: restaurants, theaters, sporting arena's, etc.

Up here a big seller is what we call the "Trump pumpkin". It's a big plastic thing that glows in the dark when you plug it in. It's a fake pumpkin that looks just like Trump, it even has his fancy hair on top. Maybe one of you Americans can explain to me the connection between an orange pumpkin and your president? *'cause I don't know:rolleyes:

We are going to stock up on candy bars but at nowhere near the levels that we usually do. We will just make sure we get ones we like in case, as I suspect, Halloween is cancelled by our town or state. That way, we will have laid in a good supply of them for the holidays, anyway.

The Canadian government has just purchased 72,000,000 dosages of the French Covid-19 vaccine Sanofi. Along with other Canadian vaccines (Gilead Sciences and others) Canada will now have a grand total of 154,000,000 Covid-19 dosages for a population of 36,000,000. All will be available to the public by the end of this year.

My question would be, is America as well prepared? If not what are you waiting for? Canada has stated that they would be willing to give some to America should you need it.

I believe that the U.S. has already placed orders for 100+ million doses of vaccine. In fact, I have heard that we are buying 600 million doses, but am not sure that is correct.

So, we bought some treats for Halloween, just in case, but made sure that they were treats that we could enjoy throughout the holidays if Halloween is ultimately cancelled or a bust. About a week ago, our governor said that Halloween will be held in Rhode Island, though with some as yet unspecified limitations. However, a day or two ago, the CDC came out with guidance saying that there should be no trick-or-treating or Halloween parties of any kind. They also indicated that a costume mask is not sufficient if you do go out; you must also wear a face mask as you would otherwise. I suspect that the governor will change her mind on the holiday, as a result. More treats for me. :)

After much reflection I have decided to go ahead with my Halloween plans as per usual. On Oct.1 I will be putting up my goblins, witches, skeletons, scarecrows etc. on my outside wall. I will leave the gates open and when the kids show up at my door I will be holding my breath while wearing a mask. As soon as they leave I will be washing my hands with soap.

Halloween is a big deal to kids and why should they be denied this cool memory and pastime? A life lived in fear is only half lived. I am sick and tired of having my life dictated by Covid-19. Common sense be damned, I'm going to have some fun come Oct.31.

But if you do not live in fear and, instead, continue to live and enjoy your life as you wish, you "...are not listening to the scientists..." as the FakeNews/Democrats/Swamp like to point out here. We must continue to hunker down in our darkened caves and eschew all social and business interaction, unless, of course, you are Nancy Pelosi and need to get your hair done.

What? Are the top dogs in Canada expecting a population explosion?

This whole CV issue is a lot of nonsense. In 2019 3 MILLION Americans died and that was BEFORE CV. Now they go apeshit over a measly REPORTED 200,000 deaths which is way overblown? This proves that the politicians are INCOMPETENT IDIOTIC KNOW-NOTHINGS only out to line their own pockets at the expense of the public.

This whole shitshow is about nothing but money and power. It has NOTHING to do with safety of the public, just the safety of the bank accounts of politicians, drug makers, large corporations (Walmart can sell clothing but a mom and pop clothing store can't?), and so on.

Lassie wants enough vaccine reserve to last for a few years. Old Yeller wants to be able to give vaccines to have not nations.

P.S. Just heard on the news that Johnsons & Johnsons has a new vaccine that does not require a 2nd booster shot like all the other vaccines out there. One shot and you're done. I sure hope we can get this vaccine north of the border. I believe everyone ought to be able to pick and choose which vaccine they want. At least up here the government will pay for it all, we NEVER see medical bills here as we have 100% socialized medical care.
