Yes, of course. I put AdSense on my sites in 2003 and you can pretty much write Christmas Day off. However, one year I was pleasantly surprised...

How are days in around Christmas like? I mean the few days before and after as well as the New Years Day? When you say write-off, do you mean its a complete disater?

you will still get some traffic, especially from people that get a new computer for christmas and want to try it out.

i think it will depend on the type of site you have and stuff

I know thats always said, but I mean generally. How much surfing is done generally on a christmas day and other days immediately prior and after christmas day?

Christmas depends a lot on where you are located in the world, in US & Europe and many other western style countries it's a holiday but in many parts of Asia and the Middle East it is just another day

For sure it will be a quieter day, but there will be some business around for those who are looking for deals. ie those who are working:)

Last year's stats peaked at the end of November and dropped continually until Christmas day, then climbed drastically over the next week, staying high for 2 weeks, then dropping back to average. Christmas day hits were down to around 25% of the typical Sunday hits, but Boxing Day was above average for a Monday.

This year is showing exactly the same trend as last year.

i think forums will not suffer as much (well active forums), because everyone will be posting about their christmas pressies and that.

... day .... off? I know those words, but...? ;)

Seriously though, I suspect most of us with any volume of western traffic will see a noticeable blip in stats, but hopefully will be too intoxicated to care.

That doesn't mean it will be a complete disaster. It also depends on what you are selling, i.e. the ads Google serves on your site. I have had a bad Christmas Day followed within a week by some of my best days ever. No way to predict, so don't focus everything on just one day...develop a good, long term money making strategy instead.

Depends on your source of traffic. If you have traffic from Saudi Arabia, I wouldn't expect any change. Probably get less traffic during Ramadan in Muslim countries I'd expect, if thats where your traffic is coming from.

Maybe will be some decreasing results on same Christmas day but I don't expect that whole week will be like that.

I think, generally, traffic across the internet will probably be down round 20% this week. Then again, I would have thought it would rise considering a lot of people are at home, which, in theory, at least, should result in an increase.

One thing I did notice was, traffic on the Cybermonday, a couple of weeks ago, was higher than normal.

You probably will. Also, a lot of engagements are made on New Year's Eve...expect a rush of business over the next several weeks for your sites.

On my ecommerce site the best selling days are Monday to Wednesday. On public holidays the sales/traffic drops dramatically.
I always though that must be because the job they are working in is too boring so people browse the internet at work :)
Back at home they got better thing to do.

About half my site traffic comes from "non-christian" countries, so while traffic will be down, it won't be signficantly down.

I will be running the site as a normal day frankly - and if anything, the fact that my competitors will be "closed" means I should see a slight uptick in traffic from those parts of the world.
