    a minimum of:
    $150 in the villages
    $250 in small towns
    $500 in the larger cities

is needed to lead a slightly comfortable life.

    (all figures per month)

I think most people would agree with me here.

To be clear, unless India recently became a part of Canada, it's not the best :D

On a more serious note, I think the revolution in social and economic positions right now in India is exciting. People here from India do nothing but praise it, and there has to be a reason why.

I still stick by my Canada comment though :)

I would say the other way round.

Canadians say that they can make India into Canda in 1 year time
    whereas
we Indians can proudly say we can make around Canada into India in just 1 day(could be even less)

    Just provide us a chance
    lol

You may be disappointed to know that India is officially a secular state, Hinduism is not the state religion.

    Bravo

"India" has existed only for 59 years, not 10,000. Most earlier dynasties & empires in the Indian subcontinent were indeed expansionist.

Yes, This is the situation in India, the gap between haves & have nots are very big . There are people who lead a good life with just $1 a day.

This statement is not correct. The British people left india 59 years ago after a short stay & rule here.

The history of India begins with the archaeological record of Homo sapiens ca. 34,000 years ago. Bronze Age civilization emerges contemporary to the civilizations of the Ancient Near East. India's history essentially includes the entire Indian subcontinent, encompassing the territory of the modern nations of the Republic of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan.----

Wrong. Before "India" became part of the British Empire there were several empires, the Maratha empire, the Mughal empire, Vijayanagara empire etc accross the Indian subcontinent. India has never politically existed before 1947 as a nation.

You are talking about the Indian subcontinent, not India as a nation.

No dotcompals, there wasn't. A country's government has sovereignty over the country. There was no central government back then, the empires independently exercised full sovereignty over their territories.

India as a nation does not represent the entire Indian subcontinent, just as the United States does not represent North America.

Yes. It is unfortunate that some parts of the Indian subcontinent are no longer belogs to India. India - the name itself comes from Indus River. But almost the entire Indus river is now not in the modern India. So, that is obvious -- time changes everything.

But we cant say that india has existed only for 59 years.
