dcristo: thank you so much for feedback. Civilization is a great idea! Adding to my plan: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOrY4jt1Qh_mMIKZfHXIA2A/discussion
Thanks for the tip. That is the one game that I have running on my Win7 machine and have been playing it over the past few years. Wish that some of the other old ones were also ported like this.
I still say the best pinball games made for PC are the old Epic Pinball and it's kin/kine. They run fine under DOSBox since they're 320x240 ModeX games. Which GoG is nice enough to pre-package for you. https://www.gog.com/game/epic_pinball_the_complete_collection I'm a little surprised Epic hasn't made them take it down to make it another of their "exclusives". (I know, I know, zip it... don't give them any ideas.)
First PC was a Pentium 200 MMX and it came loaded with games- this I got from CD-ROM that came with the CD drive or sound card or some such shit- ahh the good ol days.
Scurvy: Controller is not good choice for me. I am playing keyboard + mouse only since early 90s. I think i can be faster with it, but everybody has their own preferences.
Absolutely I only play strategy games on PC. Carmageddon is one of my all-time favourite games. I have Carmageddon Max Pack and Carmageddon Max Damage on Steam. The original Carmageddon with the High Definition Mod still holds up till this day the game play is awesome.
I know little about this because my idea of gaming is solitaire or the occasional pinball arcade game, but my 18-year-old son exclusively plays shooter games on his Xbox console/controller. In addition to modern military type shooter games, he also plays medieval military "shooter" games (swords, instead of guns) with the Xbox controller. He has been using consoles/controllers since he was 4 or 5 and has not ever really used a PC for gaming. Like anything else, what you are used to probably works best for you.
yy, you are right, its all about usage. But I think it's better to get used to the keyboard & mouse. If i realize, that you can use just one finger for free look on gamepad, it seems very restrictive in my opinion. With mouse, you use whole hand for free look, which is much more precisely. On the other side, you have 5 fingers to control on left hand, what is more operable, than on gamepad. 2nd Carmageddon race today:
