hi all, just got an infracion for a "thank you, yada, yada, yada" post. Don´t pretend to create a war with nobody but after reading the rules that i broke i can only say that the rules we´re made to be broken, we all do that everyday in our lives: small rules, big rules, traffic rules, job rules, even in our house we break rules... everybody does it. In fact, 95% of the time we don´t even know we are breaking a rule. That was my case. Sorry for that, won´t happen again. It´s a compromise. So, the problem that i see here is: if the moderators start to give infracions to everybody who does posts similars to mine, you got a hell of a job Merry christmas to you all.
in case you're still unsure, the rule you broke was "padding post count". seriously you don't need to tahnk every single tom dick and harry who posted.
hi there devin, no problem, in the future i can just not participate or read and keep my fingers on the desk. but i get your point. message taken, over and out
neh, i´m just an ordinary guy who loves seo, design, marketing and bodyboard and just want to be polite.
It's a tough rule, but really, the situations where a public 'thank you' would be okay are usually pretty clear. When a thread has one post of substance and then three pages of thank yous, it's post count padding. As far as the infraction goes, don't sweat it. I get one once in a while, it happens
i've never gotten it, so i'm the best person to ask what NOT to do. (hoping and praying this is not my last infraction-virgin post) scubita - an example of padding post count is, in this thread, you keep posting "ok i understand now. i wont do it again". if you post another 'i understand' now after this post, it's post-padding. if, however, you talk about your cat who fired a BB bullet at an oncoming patrol car, it's not post-padding.
The easy and most-appreciated way to say "thanks" is with a brief message attached to some positive reputation. Just click the balance scales in the upper right corner of the post of the person you want to thank. Then type away, click, and he/she will get "rep-thanked" and will appreciate it much more than a "thank you" in the thread (which, as you have seen, may get you an infraction).
This is a hard business to understand. Thanking someone many times is an infraction (yes, I do understand that one...) but, copyright infringement is acceptable. I got in touch with the moderators about a poster stealing a published article of mine and using it as his post and was told it was too bad if I didn't agree with the post! My eyeballs are still bulging!
it's not that copyright infringement is acceptable. it's just that it falls outside the jurisdiction of DP. what do you expect them to do?
The case couldn't be more clear there: DP mods deal with DP issues, police and other civil servants deal with things like copyright infringement. Why would you expect DP mods to deal with a potential legal issue in which they have no background, no education, no training, and no jurisdiction? I think one of the most common misconceptions here is that DP's owner and mods are responsible for the content and use of the board. Assuming the infraction is blatent (such as swearing, attacking another member, etc), then it is up to the members (and we're all grown) to deal with it through the proper channels. How is a given mod here supposed to research and come to a decision on a copyright issue?
Merry Christmas! There are lots of post like these but I guessed they can only spot 3/4 of this kind of post because they're just humans. Unlucky for you that you got caught.
