Recently people have been moving away from google, but it's a trend I can't explain. It depends on how far you're looking to go with this, I suppose.

Is there any data to where they are moving?

Since I am looking for new ways to improve my web appearance I expected that after Google Yahoo is the place... Maybe there some other ways to do it organically?

You can try this search engine called duckduckgo. Recently I noticed one of my sites is getting search traffic from this channel.

From webmastering point of view, I would not bother about Yahoo as its search market share is continuously decreasing.

I don't think so there is anyone who is using Yahoo nowadays except their yahoo email id. BTW I am not sure about it because never used it.

Getting back to Yahoo for a moment. I know you talked about trends, and internet a lot about trends, even though what took my attention is that Yahoo still ranks at 9th place globally. Is in that something?

No, I never really tried to gain any position on Yahoo. It simply happened.
Most of the terms for which I rank on google, I rank on yahoo too.
But traffic from yahoo is next to nil.

I won't lie. I did put a lot of effort in tuning my website for google. Stuff like onpage SEO, little bit of link sharing etc.
However, my primary intention is to provide useful info to my website visitors. That is my first priority.
Once the content is created to my liking, which I think is properly formatted so my website visitors will be satisfied with it and will not have difficulty browsing/reading it, then I fine tune the content to do some keyword targetting etc.

I lost ranking for a couple of keywords in this June update, so just finished re-tuning the website.
Some of the ancient websites, which have existed since 1990s, google is giving them more importance now.
These websites are still formatting their content in those age old ways, which was difficult for the user to follow, but these websites are showing up on top.

By the way, google too is losing its edge now, and I believe that eventually this search engine will become the yahoo of today, and some other search engine will take its place soon enough.

I remember the press release google's original scientists released when google was first launched.
    It said:
existing search engines like yahoo are not able to provide proper results. For example if someone searches for "president name", then yahoo is showing websites which have jokes about the president.
Yahoo's point of view is that if someone wants better results, then they should provide proper and longer search terms.
Our google understands this problem, and when a similar search is done on google, then it understands what the searcher wants, and provides results based on that.

Google has lost that "edge" now.
Today when you do a "small keywords" search on google, it shows you random crap.
Shows you youtube videos, news articles, and 2-3 other websites.
All related to that "small keyword" search, but "neither" specific.
As a result of this "ads for services" have started to come up in google, instead of the "knowledge" that the person was looking for.

Look at this result: "leather manufacturing"
    https://www.google.com/search?q=leather+manufacturing&gws_rd=ssl

There are youtube results about how leather is manufactured, service providers, and some 2-3 knowledge articles on the topic.

Its like google does not understands what the searcher is looking for, so it throws a "basket" at you, and you select whatever you were looking for from that basket.

I agree, "sometimes" this is extremely useful. But "most" of the times, this is just overwhelmingly confusing and extremely difficult to figure out.
This was not the case just 1-2 years back.
It used to provide basic info about the keyword, and then links for more refined and detailed keywords. Was very easy to follow.

And those suggested Q&A are not doing any help either.
Google is providing "specific" one line answer to a related question.
Problem with this is, Today its a hand picked answer from "one" website, which may or may not be of my interest...
2 years back this was a link, and I could have clicked it to see 10 websites which could have had answers.
I could have easily browsed 3-4 websites out of those 10 to find what I was looking for. Not any more.
They hand picked an answer, showed me a one line preview, and gave me a single link to visit.

Also, I specially hate those youtube results.
The title matches your searched term, but when you go to watch the video, its long long long crap...
Its 10 times more faster and easier to just visit a website, and read an article.
For GOD sakes, if I wanted to see a video, I would have typed "video" in the search term...
No need to throw crap at me....

In their attempt to provide more, google is throwing more and more "imposed" crap at the searcher...

Google has lost its way. Can't seem to find anything there anymore. Yahoo even worse.

Trying out duckduckgo and startpage to see if I can get better results.
