Possible to earn money online anonymously?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by ChicoS, Jun 10, 2019.

I want to write a blog but it's about a sensitive topic, and I don't want anyone to know it is me writing it.

So for example in case I have to apply for a job, they can't google my name and then find what I wrote.

But I also want to put affiliate links, etc, in efforts to make (some) money. And I want the blog and money to be owned by my own LLC. For limited liability.

Is it possible? To get money going into my business bank account through my blog while remaining anonymous???

If so, how would one do it?

Private WHOIS. You could monetize the site it's only the affiliate programs that would know your identity.

    Yes. It's that simple.

There would be no way for anyone to know who owned the website.

Obviously you need to remain an anonymous blogger and not publish your name on your site.

    Awesome... thanks!

Yeah, I would use a pen name I guess.

Is it true putting the WHOIS as some other company (to make it private from me) means I am "no longer the owner of my domain name"?

And I "no longer have any rights unless I sue the registrar"

    as this article implies??

    https://luxsci.com/blog/dangers-of-private-domain-registrations-and-whois-masking.html

Or are they just being sensational?
Is there really such a bad downside to making my WHOIS private?

Don't let the Google crawler come on your website through robots.txt file and they is no issue to keep your domain private. You could monetize by directly selling the AD space. It's a very hard work to get sponsors directly.

I've never heard of anyone losing their domain name due to private domain registration. Namecheap offers the service free with their domain registrations.

Ignore that noob's advice. Of course you want Google to crawl and index your website.

Staying totally anonymous is impossible, though you can have a blog anonymously but through the transactions there is always a possibility to find who gets the money.

Noob question too, isn't most payment transactions private?
His name will only appear in google if and only if someone will disclose those transactions.

It is possible. Been there, done that. So yes, it is possible.

WHOIS helps. And there are some roundabouts in terms of receiving payments for your efforts. Just think outside the box.

What is the sensitive topic? If it's just something you don't want co-workers to find out about (ie. passion for stuffed animals) a simple privacy on whois and using an internet handle would be enough. However, if this is a topic that is considered illegal then there's more to it than that and it's not worth the risk.

I use namecheap to buy most of my domains and the WHOIS feature is free. I always use it, even though I have my own business and actually got nothing to hide. Don't know about other registrars but all you'd need to do is do some research or send an email and ask about hiding your personal details.
