They are all scripts and not even your own designs...they are free templates...Way to help him prove his point! :D

Also, I have to say M&M's that as stated above the reason you don't see tons of professional websites on here is a few reasons.

    1. You seem to keep referring to graphics meaning the graphics aren't great on these sites. However, most experienced webmasters don't use alot of graphics as they aren't great for seo purposes. What good is a well done graphic site if it doesn't get visitors?

    2. As stated above, you see directories, proxie sites, etc on here because this place is the market for them. Those are the only types of sites I advertise on here. I have others sites like a Japanese Anime Site, but I wouldn't advertise it on here. Instead I am a member of a popular anime forum and thats where I market that site. You have to take your site to the correct market.

I had a few more I was going to post, but I'm just being lazy today...so hope that helps some.

There are a number of reasons why you see ugly websites. A lot of people are new to designing websites to they lack in creating a top notch website. Not everyone is good at the design concept but are good in other fields such as SEO, writing content, advertising etc.

Some people are just lazy when it comes to web design as it is a very time consuming hobby and time is money. So some will cough up a website as soon as possible to try and make money from day one of its launch.

There are many members on here with quality websites which you probably havent stumbled on yet. You would be surprised on how many members have great sites.

As someone already said its one market we are all in and it is a webmaster forum so it comes as no surprise there are many same topic sites on here. I have an SEO blog but its one of many different topic sites that I own.

Creating hundreds of websites under a small space of time isnt difficult and is usually done by using black hat methods such as scrapping content from other websites and have it appear on their own site. There is a lot more to the creation than just scrapping content.

The reason for this is so they start pulling visitors in for keywords of the scrapped content and hope someone will click on an ad or buy something.

Well your opinions matter, even if others dont think so. Many webdesigners loose touch in how a non designer may see their site and what their thoughts is on that site. It is important to take into consideration that most visitors to websites have no idea about webdesign, seo or making money via a website.

I dont think there is a shortage but there is always room for more. You will find a lot of talented graphic designers on here which is good because website creators are always looking to hire someone for work.

Your points are all valid, and I think you probably already know most of the reasons why you see what you do. Let me add:

Rarely will someone post a link to, or even reveal that they own, a site here if it is supremely popular and dear to them. I think security is a factor there.
Sometimes, people put a link in their sig in order to get search engines to recognize a site, or maybe even reach its very first users. Sometimes people won't want to do that if it's completely unrelated to any topics discussed here.

True, putting mini sites in a sig is what many people do at this site and at others like NP
