What am I missing, huts, trees & some people?

Wow that elephant is beautiful, that's the slimmest elephant I've ever seen.

Sorry for the ignorance, but I do not know much about life in India. So I have the following questions:

    1. Why does the elephant looks so "funny"? ("funny" as "weird")
    2. Is this picture taken in the country side?
    3. What the heck is the elephant doing walking in the middle of a street?

exe, thanks for the link although I am bit confused here, it says elephants are loved and revered in Kerala, so how come they have some of them pulling out trees? or:

Number 3 does not seem to "love" elephants at all, any laws in India concerning animal cruelty? Is this "accepted"?

Sorry..now I can see the pic..dunno why it didn't load earlier.
To adsense chic..dont be surprised. India is a very free country. Animals also have the rights to roam on the road as freely as humans. We have an abundance of stray dogs :)
