Facebook just asked me to send my photo...

    Hi all!

Today I opened my Facebook app as usual and it didn't let me in and asked to take a picture of me and send to them in order to prove it's really me.
Did anyone have the same situation? What should I do then? I don't really want to do that.

    Please help!

You're on facebook and you don't want them to have your photo? You've kind of missed the point of social media.

Or is it a sock puppet account and you can't give a photo because you can't remember whose photo you knicked or how to get another?

I think you didn't catch a point. Now Facebook can ask anyone to send their photo in order to prove it is you. https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/933bi9/facebook_requires_photo_identification/

As for me I don't like such rules as I want more or less privacy on Internet. There are apps that don't even ask for your phone or e-mail and Facebook has both of them and now I need to send them my photos for some reason.

If you value privacy then facebook really isn't the site for you.
Did you follow all the Cambridge Analytica stuff? They'll find a new way to harvest your data.

It is high time to understand that Facebook is the most disgusting, where you can correspond and merge all your data :(

I agree that FB is not a sufficiently confidential site. My friends are gradually moving to messengers, communicate there is much more convenient and safer. But it still remains a good platform for your advertising.

I do not think that this is a big problem. After all, Facebook already sees all your photos. He certainly is not a safe social network, but in the request of the photo there is nothing surprising.

Of course when I post any photo I understand that almost everyone can see it, but for what reason can Facebook ask me to take a picture of me and send them. It's a little bit against my will..

To prove it's not a fake account.
If you just pulled a random photo from google image search you're going to struggle to send them another one.
If it's really you, it'll take you less than 30 seconds to take and send.

Ultimately it's up to you, there are plenty of social media sites. If Facebook has value for you then you'll comply, if it doesn't you won't.

Passport photo?? Maybe he also will ask for a passport scan? In order to prove you're a real person?
It went too far already and I think it's the exact time to stop using Facebook at all!

This will be a bit hard to move away from Facebook at this point, may be in future we can move out.. There are different options to Facebook but they do not have all features.

What features are you speaking about? I think a messenger is enough for chatting as all the other stuff like photos or some news you can find in other apps like Instagram or Twitter.

I think your account tried to hack. I would recommend you do this. This is an extra protection to your page.

I would not recommend to do that as I think that in the era of privacy no one has a right to ask you for such things like sending something in order to prove it's you.
They can ask to verify yourself with mobile number as it's connected to your page, but not to send a photo.

This is a new way to protect your account on Facebook. Have you heard of this? This appeared after hacking a large number of pages.

They have to work on their privacy then and not force users to do such things.
I can send my picture to my friend or parents, but not there!
