Creating a list of website ideas

I am doing a research on website ideas. I have come up with Four main types of websites, and correct me if I'm wrong:
    • Blogs
    • Forums
    • Web Applications
    • eCommerce
If you have any other types please share.

For blogs, I am gonna come up with main and sub niches.
For forums, I am only gonna come up with main niches.
For web applications, I am only gonna describe the business model.
For eCommerce, I am gonna suggest some niches also.

Please suggest to me what you want to see in a list of website ideas.

    Thank you
    Farris

What category would you place sites like Craigs List, Google, or general infomation sites? None of those seem to fit in any of your four categories.

Good point. I think I should add classified ads. Google would be an application. General information sites I have no idea. What do you suggest?

What's the purpose of the list?

Have you considered intranets, technically they're websites

Wrong way around, but whatever. I'd have thought you'd start with what their objectives were - support an existing business etc

What about local community sites, essentially social networks for towns and cities?

What about educational? Not sure that falls under any of these...could be a blog. But could also be a subscription learning service on a platform such as Moodle.

More thoughts....then you've got the "pipes" - the folks who build Websites, host Websites, graphics designers, etc. All of those can be lucrative businesses if worked correctly.

I think classifieds and local directory can fit in that list.

I think blogs are much popular nowadays.
But here you need to provide a great content to get popularity.
Web applications are good as well to earn money.

Such a list would be more useful when you include many more parameters into it, such as:

    1. The amount of efforts/time/money required to be put in (at least initially, on some kind of 1-to-10 scale as an approximate and relative measure)
    2. The level of skills/knowledge required
    3. Whether it can be run entirely by a single person while still leaving time for other things
    ...and so on....

In short, the list doesn't have to simply answer 'What can I do', the reader needs to be sure of 'Why' he/she is doing something (and not anything else).
