Should You Buy This Expired Domain?

    and what did the previous owner do

    I'd be very careful that you the site you put up bears no evidence of the previous owner.

    It's hard to say without more info but those links are more than likely from "comment backlinks" where they used a "real name" instead of keywords as anchor texts. The domain could be toxic, received a penalty, who knows why they dropped it.

    I think this is good practice for Google. There is no negative impact from it.
