Wordpress image sizes all wrong

    Hi guys
using a free wordpress theme that seemed to work fine for a while.
But now, lets say I download an image 500 x500 pixels to my media library, the actual size shown is 271 x 186 which is useless to me.
I don't want to use Canva to resize it as I find that distorts too much.
I have gone into setting and changed the thumbnail sizes to 300 x 300 and the other sizes larger but I still keep getting the problem.
    Can anyone help please?

You didn't post a link to your page, or a minimal test case to illustrate the issue.

Do not take your question private. The purpose of a forum is to help the community as a whole. Fixing your problem publicly let's everyone with similar questions to benefit.

You will most likely need to modify the CSS of your theme. If you use Google Chrome, right-click and check the console. It might point you in the right direction or give you an indicatiion of what the actual size is vs what is displaying. If you see that a 'class' is involved then it is most likely a CSS issue that will need to be modified.

Yes post your link or you'll just have scam artists trying to rip you off via PM.

You should stop trying to solicit work in the help forums, the BST forum is for paid work.

I am not sure where you upload the image or how you upload.
If you upload them using a plugin it's possible the plugin change the image size.
If you upload it into posts or pages sometimes wordpress resize the image you upload and in order to get the full size you need to edit the image and reselect the size you one.
Another option is that the problem might be a css problem.
Might have been smarter to provide link to the page you having problems with.

when i upload an image say 1000 x 700 pixels then try to install through my wordpress media it scales image right down to small size 271 x 186 or similar, yet my settings for thumb nail is 300 x 200?
Think I am missing something here
